Yeah, pretty much. I think this simulates football fandom somewhat well. The Carolina Panthers are in a rather rich area of North Carolina and when they made their Super Bowl run, everyone was flocking to the stadium. One bad season later, and people were nowhere near as interested, the Panthers weren't talked about in many places, etc.

ESPN actually published an article about the top fan bases and their analysis of the Panthers was basically dead on with what you said.

Yeah, that's mainly because Jerry Richardson has targeted this type of fan -- they are kinda restrictive as to what can be done at the stadium on Gameday. However, the stadium really is pretty nice (I've been a few times).

but yeah, fans are really lobbying to get our logo at mid-field, but they don't seem to give in

Ive seen a similar type of thing happen here in San Antonio. We used to be in the Alamodome and the upperdeck tickets were $8 a person, well a few years ago we built our new arena and the cheapest ticket price was raised to $24 which put 'a family night at the game' out of the price range for a bulk of our fans. Just being blunt, San Antonio is an extremely poor city. Saddly those fans who would actually stand up, cheer, and shout are the ones who can no longer afford to go to the game. It seems those who can afford the tickets are simply there to be seen and use it as a status symbol. Its a real tragedy.

It really is. But with everything being big business/status symbols nowadays, I don't see it changing. I mean, I'm curious as to how many average people have ever been to see a Super Bowl, heh. It is all about which stars went to see the game, who there is high profile and all that happy horseshit.

The team I grew to love, the Jaguars, can't even get someone to buy the naming rights to their stadium for one of the lowest figures in the league. They're trying to make a business out of this, unsuccessfully.

Yep, it's tough being an athletic supporter these days.
