Dislike recruiting? Sick of players whining about who starts? Need more of a challenge than beating equally-matched teams in your league?

Consider owning a team that's mostly or completely cpu.

Most owners think cpus are pretty much worthless, and in GLB1 they were. In GLB2, however, they're similar to a randomly-built human and are more well rounded than most.

I don't know the code details, but my opinion (after doing this for several seasons) points are equally spread among all skills. This means that if cpu A has "flex coverage", and cpu B doesn't, then the builds will be similar except A will be better at man and zone coverage. This lets you adjust your team by archetype with reasonable accuracy.

They're well rounded because every skill gets points every time, but they'll never be exceptional at one skill. While Joe Human is jacking up speed to get an advantage, Joe CPU is spreading the wealth around and will generally have better footwork, heart, strip tech, etc.

The disadvantage is that cpu players are only good for two seasons or so. By that point even a mediocre human is clearly better.

This brings me to the first rule of cpu teams: Make sure every player has "Early Bloomer". They're only good for two seasons (maybe three, but that's pushing it), so it's pointless to build for the long run. Make the most of your first two seasons and reset to rookie.

Build a handful of humans (I usually make 8; more than that gets to be a hassle) and put them at key positions: QB, HB, DE, etc. I like to make them single-purpose; power HB, dedicated pass rusher, etc., so I can maximize a couple of skills and build around that with cpus.

My results have ranged from getting my ass kicked (tough league that time) to winning the championship (QB goal line rollout for the win). Most of the time my goal is to be .500 or better in league (I use ladder games to tune the scheme so I don't care if I win them or not) and make the playoffs.

I'd love to see a cpu-only league where the best X's and O's win, but since that isn't going to happen this is the next best thing.

Any questions, let me know.
