How much footwork is needed for a FS, SS, or a CB?

I'm thinking CB's need a lot, while SS needs some and a FS barely any... but I'm guessing with me being new to the game, any advice is appreciated.

Footwork is the most underrated skill in GLB2.

Not by top Defenses.

But yes, that kind of proves your point.

Footwork's important on the d-line and o-line. Doesn't seem as useful on linebackers, except when they go into zone. It depends what you want your FS to do. Be in Cover 1 or 2 the entire game? Not as much. Be in man cover and sometimes line up over WR3? Yup.

I think footwork is very important for a run stuffing LB. Watch Vader strafe over to take on 2 blockers and free up the SS. That is all footwork.

Yup, that's why I said this:

I wish linebackers in man coverage used more footwork, I don't know why it doesn't.

think of footwork like the breaks. quickness like the acceleration and sprinting top speed.

I would say:

Footwork = agility
Quickness = acceleration
Sprint = top speed

They will if it's high enough.

You can watch any coverage player, and compare a guy with 40 footwork covering a deep route vs a guy with 70. The guy with 70 will backpedal noticeably further before making his turn to run with the WR. That's a whole lot more time spent facing the QB where his awareness check on the thrown pass is considerably easier.

It also saves a bunch of stamina.

I'm not so sure. I haven't seen that aspect so far in Sophomore, maybe in Pro or Vet they'll have spent enough SP on footwork. But I question whether there's even a backpedal opportunity for some linebackers in man coverage. They seem to want to double cover WR's. Though if they're head up on a TE, I've seen them in backpedal.

Look at the ROLB in this your recent game, he immediately turns and runs to try and keep up with the WR1. If he was in man on the RB, he'd have backpedaled instead. As it was, the fact that he had to turn all the way around before moving towards the RB, meant he was slower to the play.
