Victorious Secret(9-4) desperately needed a win to make to the S6 Madison league playoffs, facing Alpine Affineurs(10-3). Alpine Affineurs were on a five-game winning streak, and was ranked 3rd in its tier. Most experts saw Affineurs as the favorite to win it all once they are in the playoffs.
Then it was the game day.
Victorious Secret was ineffective when they were in the redzone, unable to score touchdowns. They ended up relying on their kicker Upton, who was able to make three 30+ yarders. Their defense also seemed unable to stop Affineur's offense, allowing 6 TDs with 13 minutes to go. Now the score at 16-42, 12:54 left, it looked like there was little to no chance for VS to come back. And then this happened.
VS's QB, Alessandra Ambrosio, went 17/27 for 222 passing yards and 4 TDs in the last 13 minutes after going 18/52 for 222 yards and 1 TD. Defense was able to shut down Affienuer's offense, limiting their rushing yardage to 4 yards in 7 rushes and forcing 3 incomplete passes and 2 sacks while allowing no pass completion in that period.
Even with those kind of number, overcoming the deficit of 26 points proved to be too hard: With 2:40 to go, VS, now trailing by 5 points, went three-and-out and was forced to punt from their 39 yard line. The head coach decided to punt because he trusted his defense to show up again and get the ball back, and it turned out that he was right. VS got the ball back with 1:45 left at their 32 yard line. QB managed the clock wisely, advancing all the way to opponent's 5 yard line with just 22 seconds to go. Because they spiked in the first down, they only had 3 shots at scoring TD. 2nd and goal, Ambrosio targeted Baldwin, a possession receiver, but he was unable to secure the ball due to defenders around him. 3rd and goal, QB's throw got almost intercepted by a corner back, but it ended up an incomplete pass. Now, 4th and goal and 14 seconds to go with all the crowd on feet, Ambriosio decided to throw it to Baldwin again. Being covered by two defenders, and knowing that he didn't have much space left in the endzone to fake defenders, Baldwin just stood tall and caught the ball in traffic. And that was it for the Affeneurs. The final score showed 43-42, VS's win over Affeneurs. It was such an amazing and unbelievable moment for VS players and fans and see how their team clinch the final playoff spot in such a dramatic fashion!
