I've got a 5th string receiver on special teams, the original thought was to make him a gunner on Punt Coverage (which he seems to be good at). But in Kick Coverage, how do I get him to avoid or shed a block? I've noticed he does it a little more frequently than my corner (who actually has default skill points in break run block), so I was thinking speed at the time of collision could play a part.

But would anything in a build help? More balance? Footwork?

The best way to shed a block is a route no one really is interested in taking. You need to increase the angle for which he is trying to leave through.

So the best way to break off is to invest in hold ground. Every little win he has will probably benefit the angle he needs. The only way to really run through someone is by pancaking them, or having enough hold ground power to push them off you completely.

Shed Block signature ability is supposed to be a nice way of shedding blocks without hold ground, but the stun isn't great, and the defender doesn't get seperation from the blocker's snare aura (which should be disabled). It's a rare thing to see shed block work, but it can be done if you have SP to invest in a lot of footwork and quickness to roll off fast.

hold ground for a WR?

I think WRs on kick coverage dont make much sense, compared to defensive players. The gap will become wider every age tier between blocking skills on the return team and the base block breaking skills for a WR, that you cant raise.

Balance plays a big roll in blocking, but I dont think you will ever be able to build a kick coverage monster out of a WR. You might be able to get some tackles by placing him somewhere between IN1-4 and hope he gets the free lane, but breaking blocks wont happen that often.

Lol my post was an informational piece, and a long way of answering 'nothing.'

I would say 'nothing' is the better answer, compared to raise hold ground on a WR

What you said is true for a defensive player, no doubt. But the title explicitly asks for non-defensive players...

Yeah, don't put offensive players on coverage units. You might put defensive players on return units depending on if you've got enough run blocking built players or not. If you don't have enough, sometimes it's better to let a backup DT/DE/LB/S eat the revcake than to let a WR.

Hmm, damn. It's fairly common to put offensive players in coverage units in the NFL. Was hoping Special Teams might have different skills that apply for GLB.

Nope, it's run blocking vs brb and hold ground. And then tackling vs tackle breaking.

Offensive players only have the minimum 500 SP auto investment in all of the tackling and block breaking skills. They're a bad choice on coverage units.
