I'm debating third SA options for my powerback right now. Has anyone had good success with Stiff Arm? I worry that the "single tackler from the side" is a very narrow set of circumstances, might just make sure he never fumbles by stacking Mr. Reliable and Brace for Impact together.

Assuming your talking about your powerback on d'haran, I don't really see the use in using up your last SA trying to completely negate fumbles. Fumbles look to be pretty rare for her anyway. Although I do like the reduction to balance lost while being tackled that mr reliable provides and there isn't another obvious choice.

What about surge, is that any good on a powerback? What about freight train? Or grinder for 3rd downs? GL back for the redzone?

Guess this reply was really not much help hahah. I thought I had a point when i started typing then ended up realising I didn't know another obvious choice.

For a power back, I'd go freight train. Stiff arm makes more sense for an elusive.

I think stiff arm is good on backs that run outside a lot. The defenders almost always come from the side just based on pathinf.

This.

I typically put it on my running QBs and outside speedster types.
I have an experiment going with a back trying to utilize both of the tackling penalties of stiff arm and freight train... Combined with balance and mr reliable... We shall see how it fares in a season or 2.

power back. The tackle reduction vs power running makes it ideal for power backs, dont you think?

I don't think it's bad, I just don't think it's as cool as Freight Train for your "3rd SA" on a powerback.

Being powered by carrying awareness makes it potentially useful to an elusive back. And an elusive back is more likely to be getting tackled from side angles due to cutting and not directly engaging tacklers more often. They're also more interested in the immediate broken tackle, which Stiff Arm provides, not so much the drag and punish style broken tackle that a powerback thrives on.
