How does this work, Veteran Players and Games till Legend, what if they don't play?

I've been busy lately, missed the season roll over in GLB2 and have a number of dots who I have not needed on my main team who are now veterans x number of games left till legend.

What if I just don't sign them to teams?

Do they go legend anyway?

Or are they just in a time capsule on the shelf, ready to pull off and play on my pro team when I need them???

This one. Players careers are based on games played, not on chronological age.
