This would pretty much kill this thread if they just took them out of the ability to put them at Return Man.

What do returners get currently that other players dont?

Answer me that and then i will fill you in on all the greatest secrets in the game.

I'm not sure I'm stupid enough to effectively communicate at your level. Not sure why you are so confused.

Yes, I know that. But, why can't they? I want to have a real exact reason why they can't have these things. Not some, they are a CB they can't be a Return Man. Because that is bullshit.

You're going in circles here.

HB/WR have offensive ball carrying abilities as part of being a HB and WR. CBs do not, nor do OTs or DEs.

This makes HB/WRs the best suited to also be return men. Thus they are given the "return awareness" skill.

You might as well be asking why my FS can't have all these other abilities, or why my OT can't. The answer is because it was decided to give as few "irrelevant skills" as possible to each position to make it easier on people (and the CPU players) to not make huge mistakes in building dots. Giving "return awareness" to HBs and WRs is giving 1 skill to two positions. Adding 4+ skills to the CB position is a big difference. And then...why CBs but not FSs? Huh? FS can have Return Specialist trait as well.

I mean, there's certainly a model open for giving every dot every skill. But then you pretty much have to throw the whole "different positions cost different amounts" approach out the window, and there's a lot of value to the enticement in making different positions cost different amounts.

At the end of the day, it's quite reasonable as is. And if you don't like it, then I want to return kicks with my pulling guard, he'd be awesome at it. And run blocking technique and power should give a bonus to Stiff Arm, so he can plant a few coverage guys on their butts.

Because they play defense and those things aren't required on D.

That's like asking why a QB doesn't have all of the tackling skills in case he throws a pick.

O players get O skills. D players get D skills. Kickers get kicking skills. Punters get punting skills.

That's the game.

This should just be moved to NGTH and we can be done with it.

Umm, dumb arguments. I agree you could say well if its this position then I want any position, but I don't think that is what OP is talking about. Its very reasonable to have a CB returing punts or kicks, because it happens in the NFL every week during the season, probably pretty much every week there are some CB's returning punts, if not multiple games.

They naturally have the skills needed to do it well (agility and field vision/quick reaction time etc.) Also many NFL teams are now recruiting former WR's to play CB (Richard Sherman etc.) so CB's are VERY similiar to WR's and can be used interchangably to some degree, so there is no reason to give WR and HB return skills, but not give them to CB.

I would not however worry about it being extended to Offensive Guards, because no Offensive Guards are returning punts or kicks in the NFL. CB's do it every day during the season, and some are better then HB's and WR's at it because they all have a similiar skill set.

So, bottom line, yes CB's should have more return options. Pretty simple. I don't see it as a big deal, but OP is absolutely right in his point.

Apparently people are split on this. You got those who think it shouldn't happen because they are a CB. Then you got those who agree they should have the ability to have those skills to do returns.

So my return CB will be nice if he can ever manage to get an int, or pick up a fumble without diving? He's ran back two kicks for TDs last season, but that was probably luck.

I had a sinking suspicion that this would be true, but the team was filled with WRs and RBs already so a return CB had to do.

If that's true, looks like I'll be doing a respec after this season.
