Just looking at the player attributes, there are things you can add to the build so this won't happen.
I think the low interception # is just a build problem more than anything else.

Of course there is, but the amount of things it takes a CB to have to stop a WR is nearly double. A WR doesn't need anything but Hands, CiT, and Awareness to excel. A CB needs Tech, Aware, Deflect, Footwork, Balance, Quickness, Sprinting, etc, etc

Pro Tip: Interceptions aren't just based on the Intercepting attribute.

And it would really, really, really increase if zone coverage didn't put defenses at a huge disadvantage

I don't have any zone CBs, so I'm pretty much clueless as to the issues there. I just have a huge problem with CBs being 2-3 yards deeper than their receiver on crossing routes, outrunning their man if they have greater speed (I've seen CBs pull away as if it were a race), and overall not really seeming like they're playing the receiver.

There is no zone coverage in this game. There is "start and wait in a spot and then play man on the first guy that runs next to you" and the regular man assignment. That and players can't really see or react the right way to the right things a player normally does in zone.

Ya. Zone is bad. So many problems.

Hence why I'm making a rookie team that's running 100% zone defense.

I'm kinda a masochist like that.

Normally, I wouldn't post a play like this, but there is a certain karmic amusement to be found in the "not a very good interception build" getting an interception in the first game of the new season against the coach who said he sucked.
