Is anyone willing to talk X's and O's? Why does it seem as though success at the rookie level includes a MAN-MAN defence? Anyone out there running a successful zone? 3-4? 4-3? 5-2?

Zones certainly have there place. You are not gonna run a successful all out zone defense though. At least not against a passing team.

Why? Are the players too slow to get to their spots or just too dumb to pick up the proper reciever?

Kinda a mixture of both. Certain sides of the field mess up the logic for the other side too. You will often see a play where something worked great and then you go to the other hash mark and the safety is confused as hell about who to cover.
