Does anyone have a definitive answer on Technique vs. Power? For Run blocking, Pass blocking, etc.

Do you need Technique to start the block and Power to move OR do you just need high stats in one of them?

Mutually exclusive or complimentary?

Thanks.

From what I can gather -

Technique is starting and holding the block, and "winning" each moment of the block. Power is how much you move them around as you win. They are very much complementary. Good power means you can afford to lose a little more often because you move them more when you win. Good technique means you don't need as much power because you're winning the block more often. Finding your own personal "sweet spot" is up to everyone - and it will depend on what you're up against, I assume.

As for tackling, I think they are exclusive. Power Tackling vs Technique. Technique = wrap up. Power = lower the shoulder and hit the ball carrier hard. I prefer to make big, strong LBs and max out Power tackling. It causes fumbles as well with big hits.

For tackling, power tackling will lead to more fumbles, but has a chance of missed tackles. Tackling technique probably has a very small role in fumbles, but will greatly increase your chance of actually making the stop.

When it comes to blocking/rushing, both are probably huge parts of each interaction - get a great power roll, and you'll pancake the other guy, get a high technique roll and you'll hold the block (or shed the block, on D). I don't think anyone who wants to be good at something can ignore either, though some players will be best off going hard one direction or the other.

Not sure that is entirely true. Though it should be.
