I think what they've done with it is okay - to avoid abuse only the game can decide to go for it on 4th down, and it's very conservative. Deciding what scenarios should be in there is perhaps a long, unending discussion, but at the end of the day that's just implementation detail. The overall design of taking the 4th down option out of our hands is sound, I think.

It could still be controlled to limit any potential abuse. Restrict it to inside the opponents 40, less than a yard, limit the plays as they do for other down / distances, etc. It is perfectly doable if they just think it through and code it properly. But I can understand why some are fine with settling for meh.

Our team lost our league's championship game. We were down by 14 or so, with about 3 minutes left in the game and we were around the opponent's 30. It was 4th down and the AI punted (it went a whole 15 yards). We ended up getting the ball back and scoring on our last drive and lost by 7. I have no idea if we would have won the game or not if we had gone for it on that 4th down, but that was the only chance we were ever gonna have at winning the game. IRL that would have been an extremely easy call.

I get both sides of the argument, and I certainly don't want anything that can be exploitable. But I will say seeing that at the end of a hard fought superbowl, and a hard fought season really sucked and was painful to watch.

Just improve 4th down ai imo ...If we give people control of anything it's the beginning of the end (or at least that's what admins not willing to risk finding out)

It is a total joke that they can't figure out how to manage FG's in the 2 minute drill, or how to balance teams going for it on 4th down. LOL GLB.

Well I'm down with people being forced to not go for it on fourth but the ai is making teams lose games/and/or roll over and accept defeat in close games in a number of ways which is unacceptable and forcing teams to lose. There clearly needs to be improvement although I agree with the admins that going for it on 4th will make a mess

I think there should definitely be some improvement here. I just kicked a field goal from the opponent's 14, down 14 with 7 minutes left. To me that's a situation where I should have the option to go for it. I ended up losing by 3, which was frustrating.

"4th Down Aggression"?

Setting it to passive or safe would lead to more kicked field goals, "aggressive" would go for it more often, and there could be a middle setting if you wished.

Obviously, there would have to be situations in which going for it would have to qualify

The options should be there in different situations, like trailing big late.

Well that would be a nice feature but that's not really the issue at hand. The real issue is the ai making silly calls at the end of the halves. I don't think the ai recognizes situations well enough, and usually doesn't seem to stray from the game plan a whole lot even when the games on the line

Outside of the 4th down stuff, that is an oc problem. The game has plenty of trailing options.
