I can't seem to find any reference as to what I can do with the money that my player is currently earning under contract. Any help is appreciated.

It's meant to be made into a bed and sleep on, wipe your butt, or use as wallpaper. It has no value at all except just to make sure owners don't abuse contracts and rosters.
Can't do anything with it.
Teams have a salary cap which (mostly) will someday limit the number of superstars a single team can have. A high/med/low contract have value in terms of heart and chemistry...but the dollars themselves have no value to your player

It's a game balance mechanic for team roster design. You can have 36-43 players on a team, made up of any combination of superstars and normal players at various position depths with contracts of low/med/high.
Teams that take lots of players with +salary cost traits will have less flexibility in the number of players/superstars they can sign than teams that do not.
The salaries and salary cap provide the strategic layer for owners in roster design.

Means nothing to individual players whatsoever except for how quickly they will increase their performance at the beginning of rookie tbh

Wrong. A high contract gives you an additional +25 Heart in game. A low contract gives you a maximum chem value of 50. The standard medium does nothing good nor bad for you.

Think you got it bad, look at all those rookie Superstars Phaytle signed to the Bruins. He's got a nightmare waiting his second season into veteran down the road, lol.
Rookie superstars are cheaper to sign than sophomores... but they won't be once they catch-up at plateau

I'm wondering how those superstars are going to do against regular sophomores.

Exactly what Im thinking...sure its easy to Recruit tons of Rookie SS to a sophemore team now and you are still loaded with high contracts. But as you said, the closer he will get to vets, he will realize that this wont work for forever^^

Player contract money is in place for team salary cap purposes.
