Change Pass Rush Deflections to be based on proximity to the LoS so that it works for DEs in the flats.

I don't understand how that would address the issue of the Pass Rush Deflections skill not working in the flats. Clearly, any DE who is looking to deflect passes will likely invest in Vertical, but the two things aren't mutually exclusive.

Your not really pass rushing if your going out into the flats.

Better off letting them catch it in the backfield then tackling them than deflecting it.

Right, yes, exactly. That's why the skill would need to be changed.

I assumed it would still work in the flats.... But require more vert to get in position...

is this not true?

"The ability to deflect nearby passes while pass rushing."

If we take the description of the skill literally then no, I don't think it would apply to a DE in the flats, because technically zone coverage isn't pass rushing. Should we be taking the description literally? I don't know.

I don't take descriptions literally anymore, the description for Man Coverage Awareness claims: "Determines how quickly this player reacts to incoming passes."

This.

Deflecting while pass rushing is seemingly much more of a quick reaction, "get my hand up and just try to block it" thing than coverage deflections (read pass, break on pass, disrupt receiver/ball path).
