I think it's a mistake. The opposite is true, the top teams as playing base coverage. The reality is all the players are still new, and dropping balls, and if you can just keep the other team in front of you, a mistake will be made and the punt will happen.
Players are just now rounding a corner where jukes and stuff work, so it's even harder to blitz. I'm not saying blitzing can't work, but I think stable defenses that just make the offense execute are doing the job best.
