I see some of the other threads a figure this one may help some of the defensive minded folks. I created a LB with my first character. What are ones thoughts on how to best improve a LB?

What are you trying to improve? What do you want your linebacker to be good at? What kind of defense is being run?

focus on your tackling skills and quickness/footwork/sprinting/pursuit/snap reaction.

there arent custom slots for each type of LB, so LBs really need to be good at everything

I tend to think of the build in terms of getting where I want to go first, and then figuring out what I want to do once I get there.

Depending on where the linebacker is lining upo, I'd look at bbuilding break block (MLB/ILB) ro Pursuit (OLB) as well as the physical skills to take advantage (footwrok, quickness, sprinting). Only after I felt good about that would I go after tackling and FF skills.

since there are no ALGs, you dont have to rush on one skill, you can pretty much build a balanced "dot" all the way to plateau

When I said "where I want to go first" I wasn't really talking about build agenda, as much as his performance on the field. How can I build my player so that he moves from point A to point B quickly and efficiently? How do I put him in position to make a play? That my top priority. Only after That do I consider things like tackling, strip,PD, etc.

I just made 3 LBers and boosted them all. I have a pass rusher, run blocker, and coverage LBer. Once i start getting some consistent stats ill be able to offer some input

report after one scrimmage:

All 3 LBer's played in the same game although the coverage LB was on the opposing team. The speedy, pass rusher LB turned out to be the best overall after watching all the replays. The run stuffer stuffed the run pretty good, but looked out of place on the pass. The pass coverage guy was always on top of his guy but was rarely involved in a play. I like the Speedy LB at this point as he is always involved in a play.

To me, Pursuit is super helpful for LBs. It's the driving force behind Closing Speed, which, if you're in man coverage, can come in handy, and it's probably the best skill to improve your run defense, assuming your DL is keeping you relatively clean. If not - like, if you have to fight OLinemen in the running game - you want break run block and/or hold ground.

I feel like coverage technique is underrated, too. You don't have to be faster than the guy you're covering, you just have to be able to keep up with them in and out of breaks.

Agree that it seems like the pass is much more potent in this game, and building a pure run stopper isn't working too hot - I've already shifted focus more to pass coverage. It has made my LB more difficult to pick on in the pass game. The run stopping skills prevented big gains, but it almost never stopped the completions.

Hard to work on too many things at once, but even though physical speed skills are costly, they appear to be well worth it. Whether pass rushing or covering or pursuing a ball carrier, speed and quickness help. Getting both man skills and zone skills seems to help as well for everything but pass rushing, so although those only help on half the non-pass-rush plays, they are much cheaper than the speed and quickness skills.

Perhaps driving up physical speed, quickness, etc. and then grabbing whatever skills left over that are "cheap" is best. Especially for a LB that could be asked to do a ton, that seems prudent. A "quick start" LB has a broad variety of skills that can be built up for cheap.

I see that you are recommending agile and fast reactions on LBs, wich I can follow.

I am trying to build a hardhitting LB to stop the run and short passes. So I am trying for Strength more than quickness. I am also thinking Awareness could be great for this and then I hope he will be able to force some turnovers.

His first game was sort of a success, didn't get much time on the field and he is on a CPU team.

I also am trying to build a MLB or ILB. Any comments/suggestions?
