What exactly is 'free'? How often do we boost? Is there a reason to boost on certain days?

I think each season you get the ability to do 2 extra boosts. Not sure how the SA Boosts work though. I didn't run the ranks with everyone. Boost at any point. There is no reason to wait on boosts.
I believe with a free player that any of those top boosts are free.
