The not voting for your own players rule would make it lame, because players like Kodiak's RB are obviously deserving of the vote, so he would have to vote for a player that doesn't deserve it as much to make it fair. Just if the guy votes for a ridiculous amount of his own players, discount the vote. I'm not doing this to help my team either, very few of my players put up really great stats.
Also, make it split up by conference. Just do the WEstern owners vote for Western teams and eastern for eastern. I don't want to vote for Eastern teams as I know very little about them. Also, we should vote on Offensive player of the year, defensive, overall MVP, and owner possibly as well.

I am for the not voting for your own players. I would give up my one vote for my player because it would mean I would probably gain 3 or 4 from owners who could not vote for their undeserving player. If a player is good enough to win, my one vote will not make a huge difference, but losing 3 or 4 could.
I do like the Western/Eastern idea you have...I vote for that as well.
Being able to vote for your own player seriously undermines the system.
Its just going to be alot of votes thrown at players on your own team, for the most part. Some people are to honourable to do this, but its the internet, so you can't expect anything else.
I own the HB that is being referred to in the post suggesting we should be able to vote for our own players, and I disagree. Personally I've delegated my team's vote to our head scout as he has a better grasp on all your rosters than I do. However if I did keep the vote I'd essentially feel that most of the votes would likely go to my HB, but I'd essentially have a big affect on the backup HB for the Pro Bowl. I wouldn't vote for someone undeserving...rather I'd select the most deserving 2nd team guy.
The system with a restriction on voting for your own players makes sense!!!
