I made those templates before the new XP system came out and didn't know they would increase the power of training. In the old training system, the difference between Intense and Normal wasn't as much as it is now, but you got 2x the BT's with Normal, so if you trained on normal and bought SP's with the BT's and put those SP's into the trained skill, I think Normal training would get you higher over the course of a season than Intense would.
However, now that they increased the power of training and the gap between normal and intense is larger, you are correct in that intense is probably the way to go next season.
