It's a classic sports argument. The neutral zone trap is an abomination, but it works. Watching Stockton & Malone do constant pick & rolls was like listening to a broken record, but it was effective. Green Bay in the '60s running the power sweep over and over again was boring, but it won championships. I freely admit that my defenses are designed for my enjoyment first and foremost. I am also trying to win, but for the most part I want to have fun with what I'm doing, and for me that comes from designing a lot of unnecessarily complex AI and lots of different looking plays. I think a lot of DCs have gone in that direction because of the creativity the DPC allowed, but at a certain point you're sacrificing optimum performance for your entertainment. Your defenses and Valhalla's offenses were just designed to win, but that's why they have no particular value to anyone not part of the team. They work, but they're not that fun to watch.
