This is one with the TE being Covered by the LOLB and it looks like the LOLB run's back to get depth on his coverage and then keeps that distance as his cushion. He is currently set to
LOLBs

Tackling Style: See Tackling Settings
Play Type Focus: BALANCED
Man Coverage distance: -75
Coverage Style: Aggressive
Pass Rushing Style: Evasive
Pass Rushing Aggressiveness: 60

been verified with agent as well.

On a final note. This is sort of related to another bug thread and Catch22's answer.

Basically I was trying to comply with his solution but substitute the SS for the LB. The biggest problem I see with his solution and the very reason why most DCs don't like to align their Lbs or SS directly over the TE is that on crossing routes between the TE and WR2 the defenders can pick each other off. Also if they are directly over the TE on a run play they are instantly pancaked.

Still, like I said my changes to my play last night that created the examples in the OP were direct results of me trying to comply with Catch22's statement where the defender needs to be aligned directly on top of the TE. I figured cover man would get me the best alignment but I guess that is the bug I am trying to explain.

Same sort of thing here in this replay with the SS set to Cover Man TE and he is placed over the TE but also ends up giving him a Huge Cushion when he is set to only give a cushion of -0.75 yds.

Should he not let the TE close the gap to that distance before just taking off? instead of giving a 5yd cushion and giving up the catch?? I have seen this happen with the LOLB being placed on the TE as well.

There are two spots you can use when putting the SS to cover the TE. One is just outside the TE and up close, maybe a dot's width between the two. The other is straight up on the TE and about two dots back. This is where I put mine, cover w/o move.

The cushion is the reason why the OP wants the defender to start up close to the LOS, but the bug that is being reported in this thread is not the cushion, but the misalignment of the SS with the cover man setting. I think there might already be a bug report about too large cushions. If not, you could start one. Thank you.

Having to place the SS all kinds of crazy places to get him to do what the "cover man" setting reads he should be doing to begin with really doesn't seem like it is working as intended.

He's still within the box. Needs to be moved in order for him to line up right over the TE. I tested/verified that cover man works correctly when the SS is moved. Closing as not a bug.
