Good point, never thought of it that way. I consider myself reasonably intelligent, and didn't figure that out on my own. There's another reason to implement it! lol

...and now I will go sit in the corner and feel stupid....

...and rearrange my OAI.....

No need to feel like that. It took most of us a while to figure it out unless we inherited an OAI already setup as such. using .5 yard increments would just make it easy.

Not only that but there are others out there that may be wondering the same thing but are afraid to ask. I had to scour pages and pages of forum threads to find the answer to that.

I will agree that it would make it easier to understand (if that is what you mean by simplify). But otherwise it doesn't simplify or reduce the clutter.

Either way you still need to two inputs.

Setting it up as
0-2.5 run
3.0 - 100 pass

or like you have to now
3.0 - 100 pass
0-3 - run

It is still 2 inputs and the same amount of clutter if you want to get that detailed in your AI. I suspect this is why Bort has never changed it.

The interesting part the OP brought up is the more than just .5 increments.

the issue isn't the half increments, it's cutting off exactly at a round number. Since it's always rounding, you can't have it cut off exactly at, say, 2, because 1.5-2.49 are all considered "2."

because we can't enter values with resolution finer than one, and it rounds to the nearest one, we in fact are stuck with 0.49/0.50 always being the cut off.

I think the sim probably has an x,y resolution of much smaller than a yard (prolly even smaller than a foot) because in frame-by-frame advancements in the replay window you can see linemen and stuff moving almost one pixel at a time. so there is no sim-related reason we can't be allowed to have a tenths place (or even hundreths).

that gives you what you described above with the stipulation that it can only be in .5 increments....

Yes, I know that, and I have my OAI set up that way, but a lot of people don't know that. Furthermore, if the SIM reads in 0.5 increments, then the OAI should too.

my only concern about this is that it may favor more slamfest seasons coz OAIs would prolly be set to run up the guts on 0<2.5 which would almost certainly provide them with the down and OCs would then probably favor the inside run for the other 3downs of 7.5yards to get there

That's what 90% of OC's did last season and I'd say half do now anyway. I'm the opposite. If I have 2.5 to go, I'll gamble 70/30 or so throughout the season -- sometimes 50/50 depending on the opponent. I'll run a WR screen or a deep route out of a power run formation to try and spring a big play. More people do as you mentioned though.

Depends on the down for me. 4th and 2.5 i'm running it up the gut most likely. 3rd depends on the opponent and if i want to control the ball or try and take shots. 2nd i'm probably going for a big play
