Who are some of the great scat backs in RL? Dunn? Westbrook? How many passes longer than 10 yards do they catch? Scatback that build like a WR is a WR, that's like lining up Jerry Rice at HB and calling him a scatback. It's a back, so he should have back skills first to fit the position, no?

To me, scat backs are elusive/speed backs with decent route running ability and hands. They need to be able to run the ball, otherwise the defense will not respect the run and just play the pass. If the defense is playing pass all the way, might as well put a WR in the game and line him up at LOS rather than have a WR wannabe and put him 5 yards behind the line, at least a WR at the LOS will get into his patterns faster and have more patterns to run.

Good point. I just looked at the NFL RB stats and YAC is within a yard or two of average reception yardage for pretty much all of them.

greedy speedy only made sense because of that scat back VA. trying to make a HB like that nowadays would just be dumb.

I certainly agree in football, and tend to agree in dot ball too...though perhaps a little less so, primarily because offensive FBs make a decent running threat in dot ball.

Actually it's always made sense because of terrible pathing on HB coverage.
