The returner chases the ball and then once it gets inside the 5 he just stops. There is nobody within quite a few yards, so why doesn't he go pick it up?

Edited by Djmr on Jun 23, 2010 06:23:47 (Tough call to say this since it looks silly but not enough to call a bug)
Edited by STG on Jun 21, 2010 05:51:18 (Looks like Returner deems Play Dead and thus gives up)
Edited by blaslo on Jun 20, 2010 20:13:48 (the way the return man chases it down before stopping looks off to me)
Edited by VolBrian on Jun 20, 2010 19:22:44 (PR's shouldn't go after bouncing balls inside the 10)

Just football logic imo. Not buggy, working right I believe. Irl, if a PR goes after that bouncing ball anywhere inside the 10, he won't be returning punts very long. I guess he's hoping it goes into the endzone for a touchback. I believe the rule irl is plant your feet at the 10 and if it's over your head, flee. Gonna mark not likely a bug as I'm pretty certain this is WAI.

if there are defenders nearby then you are correct, you let it go. However, if the ball is not moving and there are no defenders within 20 yards, I'd bench the kid if he DIDN'T pick the ball up. That's football logic as well

actually, I tend to agree with the original post on this one. I could see maybe one time, the return man thinks the ball is going to go into the end zone, so he lets it go, then realizes it's not going to get to the end zone but by then it is too late. But in all three examples, with the return guy starting to chase down the punt and then stopping dead just as the ball gets inside the five, looks strange. Going to move this for some QA

I'm going to disagree with the OP. Here is why:

In all the 3 instances, the punts are bang on (inside the 5)

Not so surprisingly, the returner is acting like they are expecting a touchback.

The point where Returner gives up, the coverage team is within 25 (less than 20 in 2 of the 3 examples) yards of the ball in all 3 examples

Here are ScreenCaps of the exact time the ball stopped moving:

http://s1023.photobucket.com/albums/af360/STGbugsmod/?action=view¤t=replay.jpg
http://s1023.photobucket.com/albums/af360/STGbugsmod/?action=view¤t=replay2.jpg
http://s1023.photobucket.com/albums/af360/STGbugsmod/?action=view¤t=replay.jpg

So essentially there are two possibilities for me. One being, I think the Returner is fooled into thinking these will be touchbacks. I also think it is important that he "gives up" before the ball stops moving (again thinking that they will sail OOB)

The other is that the Returner sees the Coverage Team coming and Stays put

Either way, it looks about right to me. I am going to look for some more Pee Wee Replays before I call "Not a Bug", so consider this post my $0.02 until i see it again elsewhere

I agree w/ STG here. In the first example if he goes back for the ball and successfully picks it up the nearest defender will probably be at the 10 yard line if not sooner. #2 looks buggy but it's hard to tell if that's b/c of a bug or really low vision. What's the build? If you don't want to post, PM me.

also....you're returning w/ a QB that's vision is likely not above 20.

Should be benched imo

I'm leaning towards saying this ain't a bug.

Agree with you both, I'll wait until STG provides those replays before doing anything though

Just curious, whats his Kick Return Touchback Depth slider set to?

I'm Not sure what difference that will make. The slider is only for kicks that are still airborne as it approaches the endzone. I will try to have more replays this later morning

Here is the same behavior from my own Pee Wee Team and other Pee Wee Teams in My League:

http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1264541&pbp_id=1516234
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1266675&pbp_id=7709584

In all Cases, it looks like the PR/KR makes a check and deems the play dead, so doesn't react to it

I'm Calling NOT A BUG - FIRST VERIFICATION

Vision of the QB is 19.35. The CB in the 3rd post is just under 25.

And it's PeeWee, if a return guy has vision much higher than that he either doesn't have speed or agility.

I'm wondering though... is there something going on here that we're not seeing? Maybe there is a reason that the returner stops. I'm inclined to agree with you, STG, but I can't say exactly that i'm sure it isn't a bug.

I'm 99% sure this is not a bug.

However, there was something uncovered in those replays that I think could be more buggy. Why does the return team continue to sprint backwards even though the punt was angled and then stopped. Certainly they dont think they're setting up to block someone in the endzone. Could be a bug right there.

So what's the verdict?

I say that as for the OP, theres no bug. However, if the replays show something else Im not seeing, then its best to make a new post. Im locking this one up.
