I've never paid attention to this before, but when ACS went Gold (S13) it went:
Silver 1 Champion Baltimore Gulls assigned to East, swapped to West
Silver 1 Runner-up Atlantic City Surf assigned to West
Maybe someone can check on conference assignments for each Gold season so far.
I know someone wants to do it.

Runner-ups are random. League winners I'm pretty sure were placed in based off those. I know that each league alternates between East and West. (Ex: If S1 goes to west, S2 to east) And then WC spots go to championship losers based on records, then points allowed, and possible points scored.
Looking at S8: Only the Season 12 winner went to the East. Previous two went to West. Maybe it rotates every 2 seasons?
