How many teams would actually risk not boosting for the playoffs to reach level 14? Seems like a big gamble for something that you might not even reach.

us, because as long as we get there, we could care less who we play in the first round

I think the difference between Level 13 and 14 is pretty insignificant considering those 5 pts usually go into a secondary or even lower attribute category. If you put them into a primary attribute it's usually something that's already been capped twice and wouldn't even add 2 full skill pts (at a 3:1 to rate) and they usually get distributed amongst two categories like an CB adding 2 to vision, 2 to tackling, 1 to strength or an HB getting a few more pts into agility and a pair of pts into vision and really... are those extra 5 pts worth the money you pay to only use 1-4 games (playoffs) or would you rather boost now and enjoy the extra ability for half of the season in addition to 1-4 games (playoffs).

imo...the only reason teams would boost now, is to get an advantage over others. It says something about their play calling abilities! Hmmmm...maybe we need to boost.

Generally, there seem to be 4 boosting points...
Weeks 4-8 = teams who boost here are either fighting to not be one of those demoted, or need a strong 2nd half to even have a run at a play off spot. Generally teams with poor records boost here.
Weeks 8-12 = these teams are generally your mid level teams with a record around .500 who need to boost to compete with those team that have already boosted so they can keep their play-off spot. Play-off bubble teams often boost here as well.
Weeks 12-16 = these are your more powerful teams that have a good winning record who are only boosting to maintain a good playoff seed.
Post week 16 = if a team is good enough to make it through the whole regular season with a good seeding in the play-offs, then this is one of the elite teams that is favored to win it all.
Not saying this pattern holds true for all teams, but a majority of them.

There will always be exceptions, but as far as a generalization, this looks pretty accurate.
