Wow, week one was a blast. There were two major upsets, lots of exciting plays. The playoffs are in full swing now with lots at stake for the four remaining teams, we will give preview to these great matchups, but first a little recap of the week one contests.

Somali Pirates vs Barundi Bush Warriors
http://goallineblitz.com/game/game.pl?game_id=1094190

This matchup leaves us with very little to discuss. The game played out pretty spot on with how we thought it would. There was a little bit of excitment that saw BBW make a game of it early on going into the half tied at ten. But then the real Slim Shady did stand up. Somali was dominant on offense as expected, putting up 624 total yards with indefirence to running or passing. OMG was enfuego. Completing 70+ percent of his passes.

Sterling Bulldogs vs West Yorkshire Bandits
http://goallineblitz.com/game/game.pl?game_id=1094192

This game was easily the game of the week. If you have not watched the pbp, stop reading and do so now. If you like dot ball, this game was like warm cherry pie.
In our preview to this game, CDN chose the Bulldogs to win this game. I think any sane person would have. However, CDN did state that WYB had talent on par with the big boys of Lion and that Chemistry was holding them back. Well, for one game that talent really did step up, particularly on defense. Both teams struggled offensively. Defense was the flavor of the day. The reall difference in the game was WYB defense forcing turnovers. WYB forced 4 turn overs, 2 int, and two fumble recovery. Sterling also put the ball on the ground two more times, but did not relenuish possesion. The makeup of this game really is not what you would expect. if you took the two box scores and erased the names from the top, I would reverse the order of the names in the Box score. I mean, Sterling had all those turnovers, and 5 penalties. It was like they were the team with the penalty hit.

The game was a tight affair with WYB maintaining a slight lead that you felt could evaporate at any time until Flasher vasher took an INT to the house. http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1094192&pbp_id=18234394 It was almost as if at that very moment the game took a turn and you could feel there was no way WYB were gonn let go.

I would like to give a big BZ to WYB. Nice effort taking down one of Lions big boys.

Nairobi Death Squad vs. Alexandria Crimson Evil Aces
http://goallineblitz.com/game/game.pl?game_id=1094191

The "other" upset of the day. This one did not take anyone by surprise. ACEA brought a nice game plan into this one. I respect Nairobis defense a ton, and ACEA qut up a lot of yards on them, chewed up the clock and played lights out defence. a quick glance at the stats of this game, and you would hav ethought this was a blowout. However, somehow Nairobi kept ACEA out of the endzone most of the time and ACEEA put up just enough to win the game.
Alexandria won this game at the line of scrimage. Pretty much dominated the OL of Nairobi all day long. This game was a FG fest the first three quarters with each squad notching a TD a peice. ACEAs TD came with 1 min left in the game to retake the lead, and secure the win. http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1094191&pbp_id=18237135

Cybertron War Machine vs. Fulham Flying Hellfish
http://goallineblitz.com/game/game.pl?game_id=1094193

The warmachine and Hellfish had a nice little battle. The first half was again a wash, but CWM pretty much dominated the second half. CWM held off the Hellfish by dominating the TOP holding the ball 11 minutes longer than Fulham. POTG CWM OL.

Somali Pirates vs Alexandria Crimson Evil Aces

What to say here? I did not expect to see this matchup. Alexandria pulled a little upset and their reward is to be David to Somalis Goliath. The question is, what kind of stone does David have in the slingshot? You would think that this time of year in this round of the playoffs the matchups would be relatively even and rely mostly on game plans. I am not certain that is the case in this game. Can the Aces slay the giant? I think they could, but you would have to hold a gun to my head to get me to bet on it.

So how can the Aces win? they have to start by bringing a comparable defensive effort as last week. They have to do every thing possible to keep this game a low scoring affair. The win has to come in the fourth quarter, not the first. You are not going to blow Somali out, and you wont be able to hang in a shoot out. so keep it close, win the t.o.p. battle and let WRs Grant Schwartz and/or Con Idds try to steal this game late. Dot every I cross every t in the scouting department and good things may happen.

Somali Wins if they score. I think Somali only needs to score 21 to win this thing. This game will mark the beginning or the pirates Post season game planning. They showed in the regular season game that they are going to make Aces pay to play when it comes to yards and points. TBH, the game was a slaughter. I do not think after the way Somali fell out of the post season last year that they will leave any stone unturned in the playoffs. So the key to the game for the Pirates is avoid complacency.

What will happen:
Somali will dictate this game and never be challenged after their second drive.

Somali wins 35-9
Upset chance? 25%

Cybertron War Machine vs West Yorkshire Bandits
http://goallineblitz.com/game/compare_teams.pl?team1=6417&team2=6097

First I would like to congratulate the Bandits on a such a wonderful win. I have a lot of freinds over there, and really like that team a lot. While I did not pick them to win the game, I did have my fingers crossed for them to pull it off. Outlaw121 is a good guy and I think if anyone around here deserves such a rewarding win it is him. I have seen first hand how hard he has worked to make the Bandits relative this season. Early on his team had some shaky performances and he totally reevaluated the team. He made some tough cuts, getting rid of one locker room cancer, and making some key additions. He knew that these things would kill the Bortiness Chem of the team, but give him a better product on the field eventually. A little while back the team was struggling and on the team forum my advice to him was just get in the dance, and once you do, anything can happen. He did, and it did last game.

So anyways on to the game.

These two teams have faced off a lot the last couple of seasons, and each time CWM has had the upper hand. I think the worm is turning a little bit and the talent on WYB has improved enough to be able to put some fear into the Machine. I do not think you can take much from the first meeting there has been a lot going on on both squads since then.

WYB wins if: I think they have to do two things to pull of the W here, one is make CWM turn the ball over. The other is they have to put togethr long drives. three and outs, and turnovers will not beniffit a team with their chem. giving up any big play to the Machine will be very -ev.

CWM wins if: They do not let the Bandits hang around. The Machine has to put points on the board early and let the morale spiral start. CWM has to make some plays in the passing game early on and at the same time not allow that damn Vasher to make the game changing play he has been putting up the last few weeks. Be stingy on Defense and explosive in the passing game early.

What will happen? I think WYB will come prepared, and play tough early on until CWM makes "the play" that opens the flood gates. I look for CWM to get a lead then pound the ball to keep WYB out of the game.

Predicted score?

CWM wins 24-17
Upset Chance? 35%

As the DC for both squads, I'm just going to take the game off and let the dots go at it....

After taking over the position for WYB mid-season, I've been able to watch Flash Vasher really turn his game up a notch in the 2nd half of the season, both at CB and at KR/PR. When WYB need something to happen, they turn to FV and he usually is the one to step up.

As for CWM, they seem to just be able to stop enough of what the opponent wants to do to enable the offense to come up big.

I have to agree with BH...WYB will need something special to happen, stay close, and not let CWM have momentum/morale turning plays. If the sim gods favor WYB, then they have a shot at knocking off another powerhouse in the playoffs....

Good luck to all playoff teams...let's not have any foul-plays or bad-sims be the death-knell....
