If you are selling the team you would be better off just selling it and letting the players find other homes as FAs. It would save the other teams money.

That's the key -- It doesn't look like he is selling the team - looks like he's dumping the players for cash, and running a CPU team for a season -- upgrading the stadium with all the excess $$ he makes from trades.
Look at the trade history -- he traded for players a couple days ago low, then turned a huge profit 2 days later trading the same players. Plus a couple of scrimmages set up??
