Since you guys asked for it here it is. I'm not very familiar with the Elephant Conference teams so this will be a lot shorter than the Lion conference walkthrough.
The Elephant Championship game comes down to the #1 and #3 seeds. Both teams look very strong but only one will come out on top as the representative for their conference in the Championship game.
IVORY COAST BREAKERS
Ivory opened the season at home for an interconference game that was more of a scrimmage for them. They went on to destroy Detroit 93-0.
Week 2 saw Ivory travel to Ikari. Ivory jumped out to a 10-3 lead at halftime before shutting down Ikari the rest of the way to win 20-3.
Week 3 was a bye week as they demolished Huronia 244-0.
Week 4 had them traveling to Hanoi where they suffered their first loss of the season. Down 31-20 going into the 4th quarter they tried to mount a comeback as the defense shutdown Hanoi but fell short and lost 26-31. This would be their only loss of the season however as they went on a rampage the next 10 weeks.
In week 5 they almost shut out Ethiopia with a 50-3 win.
Week 6 saw them go to Hungry where they crushed the Hippos 87-0.
Weeks 7, 8 and 9 were essentially bye weeks as they shut out Uganda, African and Saskatchewan bye huge margins.
Week 10 saw them facing a playoff team when Covington came to town. The future #3 seed had no answer for Ivory though as they got trounced 38-7.
Week 11 had Ivory going off to Huambo where they beat the Hermaphrodites 49-9.
Weeks 12 and 13 had Ivory continuing to dominate as they notched up their 7th and 8th shutouts of the season against P-Town and Africa.
In week 14 the Grocery Baggers were quickly laid out to pasture as Ivory thumped them 70-10.
Week 15 was a tough contest that had Ivory going to Kilimanjaro. Ivory jumped out to an early 21 point lead in the 1st quarter but the Stings were not going to lay down easily. After the 21 point outburst the Sting silenced Ivory the rest of the game as they put up 16 points but fell short in the 4th quarter when Ivory's defense locked it down. Ivory won 21-16.
Week 16 was another blowout victory as they started preparing for their playoff push as the #1 seed. They beat Luxembourg easily by a score of 62-7.
Week 17 was a rematch against Africa. Africa had no response to anything Ivory did however as they suffered a larger loss this time around and Ivory won 62-7.
In week 18 they faced off against Ikari. The Warriors suffered the same fate as Africa however as they lost by an even larger margin as well. Ivory walked away with a 42-7 win.
COVINGTON BLACK KNIGHTS
Covington opened up the season with a bye week against Durban.
In week 2 they went to Africa where they destroyed Africa 71-3.
Week 3 saw the Baggers coming to town. An easy win for the Knights at 97-7.
Week 4 was their first loss against Kilimanjaro. They went back and forth most of the game. At halftime the score was 9-9 and one had to wonder if either team would find the endzone. The Sting were the first to do just that in the 3rd quarter but keeping in the pace of the game the Knights tied it right back up with a TD of their own. That would be the end of the Knights however as the Sting's defense shut it down the rest of the game while the offense put up 2 more FGs to leave the Knights with a 16-22 loss.
Week 5 had the Lions coming to town before being tamed as the Knights won 48-21.
Week 6 was a little stiffer competition as they traveled to Ikari. After the first half the game was very close with the Knights up 16-10. But they pushed their lead with a 14-0 3rd quarter that was the Warriors undoing as they went on to win 37-17.
Week 7 was a bye against Huronia.
Weeks 8 & 9 they faced off against Hanio and Ethiopia. Neither team had a chance as the Knights went on to win 50-3 and 72-0 respectively.
Week 10 had them travel to Ivory for their only other loss of the season. The Knights were shut out until scoring with 33 seconds left in the game. They will seek to avenge this loss this week but it will take a lot to not duplicate the 7-38 thumping they received at the hands of the Breakers.
Weeks 11 and 12 were bye weeks with a home game against Uganda and a visit to African.
Week 13 was another easy won as they thrashed the Thrashers 125-7.
Weeks 14 and 15 were road games at Hungry and Huambo. Neither team had a chance and the Knights came away with wins by 85-0 and 89-22.
Week 16 was more of the same as the Knights put up their 7th shutout of the season against P-Town winning the game 144-0.
Week 17 had Luxembourg coming back to town but the Lions suffered a larger loss this time around as the Knights won 63-16 to move on to the 2nd round.
Week 18 was a road game at Kilimanjaro. After the Sting handed them a tough loss the first time around the Knights came out and jumped to an early 10-0 lead in the 1st. Kili closed the gap going into halftime though to make it 10-7. It would be the only TD Kili would score all game long though. In the 3rd quarter Kili outscored the Knights 9-7 but that wouldn't be enough to win the game. Both teams defenses shut down the offenses in the 4th quarter and the Knights managed to run out the clock with 3 minutes left in the game to come away with a 17-16 victory and a trip to the Conference Championship game.
GAME OF THE WEEK
Covington Black Knights @ Ivory Coast Breakers
Tough game to call not having played in this conference. Both teams are very dominant. Both teams stumbled on a game or two. Logic says that Ivory wins out here again. Games are won in the trenches and Ivory has very deep depth on the OL while Covingtons depth is not as deep. The Breakers also have a deeper set of CBs.
But I'm going to go with the Black Knights after their narrow victory against Kilimanjaro. I think they've turned a corner and are more than capable of getting an upset victory.
Regardless of the winner in this game however, Lion Conf better take notice as the Knights beat the top 3 seeds from Lion in preseason scrims so either team that wins out today is looking like the clear favorite for the big game.
Good luck to both teams!
