I haven't been on the forums as much this season as last, but the forums seem to be much more active this season, and my useless drivel isn't needed. To all of you new teams, welcome to the league. (a little late I know) I always love the infusion of fresh blood, especially when they give me stuff to read on the forums.
Normally I do some type of predictions on the games, but I don't have quite that much time this season. I'm going to do my own power rankings from time to time instead. These rankings are my opinion, and not meant for anything other than entertainment.
Lion
1. Capetown Tsotsi
These guys have absolutely been destroying people this season. They started out with a pretty easy schedule, so the jury was still out, but the way they dominated a very good CWE team left nothing more to debate. IMO this is the best team not only in Lion, but in the entire league. The only question is will the decline penalties of all those high levels be too much to overcome when playoffs hit? We shall see.
2. Johannesburg Jackals
10 more games until we get to try to redeem ourselves from that 1st round playoff loss last season. No, we're not still bitter.....not at all.... (okay well, maybe just a little)
3. The Nile Denial
This team only has one loss on the season, to the #2 team in the rankings, and have an impressive win over RR on the resume. These guys seem to do everything very well. They have a fairly easy next couple of games before the schedule starts to turn tougher. Look for them to be in a good position come playoff time.
4. Carthaginian War Elephants
Very tough call on the 4th spot here. I'm going to give the edge to CWE based on their win over the Balls, and strength of schedule. Tomorrow we will learn much as they face off against PTT. I believe this team is much better than a 70-21 loss to Capetown, and that's why I'm slotting them here. They could prove me to be a total idiot tomorrow. (as if proof is needed)
5. PTT Rebels
One of 3 undefeated teams still in the conference. They slide down to #5 based on their strength of schedule. They haven't played a single team with a winning record yet. As stated above, they get a chance to prove themselves tomorrow against CWE. If they can keep playing at this level, they have a very good shot at a home playoff game when the 2nd season starts.
Elephant
1. Rhodesia Ratels
These guys just don't seem the same without Jessica Landry..... Their only loss this season came from a very good Nile team. I'm really looking forward to the match up with Choctaw in 3 days. That will give someone the undisputed #1 spot in the rankings for Elephant. I'm sure that both teams are already working on AI as I type this.
2. Choctaw Cracker Party
The last undefeated team in Elephant takes the #2 spot in the rankings. I'm dropping them to 2nd based on a closer win over Swaziland Semnikati. They did have an impressive shut down win over a descent Andorian Commandos team too. They will have a chance to prove these rankings wrong in 3 days when they square off against the Rats. Should be a good one.
3. Swaziland Semnikati
Their only 2 losses on the season came against the #1 and #2 teams in the rankings, and it was a one point squeaker against Choctaw. They have a pretty interesting match up in 3 days with TA, which should be a good game. That game will go far in determining playoff seeding. Swaziland is a solid team, and I wouldn't be surprised at all to see them at home in the first round of the playoffs.
4. River Styx Jinx
The only "original" AAA #1 team still here. They seem to have their best team in recent memory this season, and are looking poised to make some noise in the playoffs this season. They already have a win over TA, and if they can get through this next patch of games unscathed, will be looking good.
5. Teikoku Alexanders
TA gets the nod at the #5 spot by the smallest of margins. They just edge out the Commandos due to win against the same Mombasa team that beat the Commandos. They have a pretty tough batch of games coming up, so we'll see where they land when the smoke settles. I expect them to be pretty close to this spot when the season ends.
