Lion Conference Power Rankings
This is a down year for the Lion Conference. The top talent is as good as ever, but the bottom of the league has not had this many CPU or re-building teams in seasons. Traditionally, we have avoided this. This means that even one loss can hurt. It won’t necessarily hurt a teams playoff chances, but it could cost them a home playoff spot and the money that provides. It’s really only a 12 game season here in Lion.
With 4 guaranteed wins here, teams 7 through 12 in the standings like Nairobi, Kunta Kinte and Myrtle Beach must win their head to head or it’s bye-bye playoffs. An upset would go a long way to ensure they make it.
Now that we have a better feel for the teams, I am writing up a power rankings. I will write up one for Elephant tomorrow. We have some good teams. We have bad teams, but more importantly we have some great owners and franchises that will continue the Lion tradition of quality. There was a time here every game was against a good team. It looks like that is back on track if we can get some good teams imported here next season.
(Everybody will be in alphabetic order in their groups.)
Championship Contenders.
Eden Sin - You cannot discount their 49 game win streak. You don’t win that much without great personnel and game planning. They look tough to beat and are likely to spend only one season in AA whether or not they win the conference championship. I think they are lock for the conference finals.
Ironton Tanks - Only one loss for the ‘Ton’s. Not bad for a team formed close to a century ago. Those guys are old but can ball. Very tough road to make the finals for a re-match vs. Eden, but can do it.
Zambezi - I don’t write a lot about my team. I just will lie and say we are way over-rated, which we are. And we will lose in the first round, which we will.
Final Home Playoff Game
Sahara Sand Monters - Good team. Not great yet, but very good. Has a good record and only played a few of the bottom feeders. Has the advantage over Savannah for the tiebreaker and home playoff game.
Savannah - They have been here a while too, and this year have turned the corner. Their second half schedule closes with Eden, Ironton and Zambezi in three of the last five games. They need to finish strong to get the final home spot.
In The Playoffs
Mogadishu - Very good team. Lost a tough one yesterday, but should be tough all year. Having been the only team of the last three to play the top 3, victories the next two weeks, could mean they slide into the fourth playoff spot.
Nairobi - Very good defense. Beat them now, because their future is bright. Will struggle to get anything higher than a 7th seed, but I would not want to play these guys when their all grow’d up.
West Nile - Once owned a very long winning streak and could start one again. Has been cursed to be in Africa Lion. Would have won many other conferences over the seasons. Will definitely make the playoffs.
Better Upset Somebody
Kunta Kinte, Myrtle - You guys better do something quick. You have good stuff to hang your hats on. We have been there before ourselves. Just a tick slow here, a missed tackle there. Once the levels are more aligned and those holes are closed, you both can get the upsets that elude you now.
Just Out of their League Right Now
Togo and Atlantic City - Nice teams. Just way too low on levels to be competitive. Don’t lose hope. You guys will much more enjoy next season if you stay the course.
The Bottom Feeders.
There is nothing really to say. Have a great day. Say hi to everyone. Come again with effort.
