I already have a piece that was +1 Protector & +1 Blocking. I rolled a +1 Protector in my store. Is it worth it, or look for a pass block, or something with a special ability & an attribute?

At level 40 you can have 9 in protector without spending one sp if you have CE and 2 pieces of fully upgraded protector thats pretty darn nice and the way I went with my LOT .

Nobody here did the math... If you consider going to 10 is all that is really "worth it", and have custom, the first piece is worth going from 5->9 when upgraded to level 40 or 48. So the new piece is worth going from 1->5, which costs 2+3+3+4 = 12 SP. It also saves you some SP on the pre-reqs, if you want to look at those also...

1-1-2-3-5(+4+1) or
1-1-1-1-1(+4+4+1)

which is a saving of 1+1+2 = 4 SP.

So if you consider the two pre-req SAs to be TOTALLY worthless, the value of the piece is 16 SP.

But to upgrade to level 40, it costs 8 upgrades, which is the same as 16 4BT cash-ins for +1SP.

So the piece, at level 40, is worth the same as if you just cashed in and put the SP in anyway. But now it DROPS in value as you upgrade (why pay bonus tokens to get to level 48 equip? and when you upgrade to 56, now the piece is worth even less, going above 10 Bort has said loses value pretty fast), making it NOT WORTH EQUIPPING.

----

So unless you are totally set on something like 16 protector and are going to ignore Bort and assume it is actually considerably better than 10, you should not buy this piece.

Or, you buy the piece to get protect t0 10 as quickly as possible, and when the combined pieces get you above 12, start shopping for another piece. Remember, you get all the BTs back when you cash in, and can immediately upgrade another piece of equipment.

A plus 10 is huge for a young left tackle

So do you not use aeq? genuinely curious, as I have always used it on my players.

No, but I wouldn't use it twice on the same SA

I guess that really makes sense, I didn't quite pull that from your post.

As wickster posted however, it is nice for a player who has yet to invest in SA's. I can always sell one back and transfer it over to another piece of equip (my +3agi, +1foundation piece!).

But this would only kick in after the time to spend skill points in SA's. If you invest in SA's before the last decline in levelling up points to get protector up to 10 with just one AEQ, you are giving up fractional skill points that could have been given at higher level up bonuses that would take skills over softcaps. I dont think that is very clear, but I hope it gets my point across. If you don't want to invest in SA's before level 38. But, you want protector as high as possible. If you can afford it, it makes sense to me to use two pieces of protector until level 40, then switch to hold block% or RB/PB piece before the level 40 upgrade cost hits.

Sure, that's fine to switch later. Have you ever seen a well built OT below level 40 struggle, unless you are in a league way over your head? I sure haven't. OTs dominate the game until the 40s, when they'll be spending in SAs.

I dunno, the OTs the Kull Warriors go up against don't seem to have a lot of luck. Course, they might all suck.

Right, look at it from the other side. We've been hurried 12 times and sacked 9 times all season. While I guess that sack number could be lower, I have a strong feeling protect wouldn't do much to lower that total, those are probably overwhelming blitzes, 3rd and long with the QB holding on, up the middle, from the strong side, etc., as well
