Red Elephant (How is Crimson Tide = Red Elephant? Never got that.. are we talking about a female elephant at that time of the month?)

Silent Willies (The avatar shows "Willie the Silent", a statue of William of Nassau or William of Orange, same guy, is the George Washington of The Netherlands and Rutgers was started via Colonial Charter in 1766 as a College, and as all colleges were at that time, designed to create ministers for the church... in out case, the Dutch Reformed Church, unlike most colonial colleges of that day who served the Anglican or Episcopalian churches.)

So, "WIllie the Silent" is a statue that was a gift of the Dutch Queen on an anniversary of the college.. 100th? 1050th? I forget). It is said that WIllie whistles when a virgin walks bye (and he never whistles).

So, we are the Silent Willies.. for now..

But with the exile to Oceanic, we are considering such monikers as the Christmas Island Snow Elves or the Mariana's Gilligans.

Thanks for the history lesson though, I have a new found respect for Rutgers and their college......NOT!!

A little history about The University of Alabama..if I may. I guess Bama started late, compared to Rutgers, being founded in 1831. The football team really started late, playing it's first game in 1892.

Being a Rutgers fan, you may not be familiar with one of the most storied college football programs like Alabama...but our mascot is an elephant....and here is the story of how Bama got that mascot....who Bama fans affectionately call "Big Al"...

Strupper and other writers continued to refer to the Alabama linemen as "Red Elephants," the color referring to the crimson jerseys.

The 1930 team posted an overall 10-0 record. It shut out eight opponents and allowed only 13 points all season while scoring 217. The "Red Elephants" rolled over Washington State 24-0 in the Rose Bowl and were declared National Champions.

And the most prominent booster club for Bama to this day, is called the Red Elephant Club. And that's the rest of the story......

They actually came north once to play Rutgers at Giants Stadium in 1980 to show the New York City media their number one team. Bear's team won 17-13 in a great game (by Rutgers standards) and a shockingly small victory (by Bama fans standards).

Bama's recent recruiting violations penalties are typical SEC slaps on the wrist. They forfeit some prior years victories, give up no scholarships and no TV games and no bowl games.

Who said cheaters never prosper?

C'mon Bear!!! You've been a Bama fan long enough to know that people that hate the Tide rarely if ever let the facts get in the way of their hate.

Advil. All you have to do prior to game time is start talking about Elephants, that should win about half the games (You know you don't want too many thoughts in a football players head.) I was going to "Quote" but i thought it might give someone else a headache, so i thought better of it. Please find a zoo and retire the talk about the big "Grey" thing. 3 days until game..anyone wanna give a prerank?

It was not recruiting violations like the Bear said, it was because 5 football players used what they had left on their textbook vouchers, to get extra textbooks for their friends. That's it....plain and simple. And those players were suspended for 4 games once it was found out, yet we have to vacate 21 games and go on probation for 3 years, which is a considerable penalty.

While it's widely known Reggie Bush got paid to play for USC, and numerous other schools have been implicated in much worse allegations, they don't even get a slap on the wrist. And yes, Bama got busted in the early 90's for a player signing on a napkin with an agent, with one game left in his last season, and Bama got nailed with harsh sacntions, tons of schollies lost, and a whole season forfeited. And yes, Bama got busted in 2001 for a booster trying to by a player, although there were about 15 other schools that tried to buy him also, Bama get's nailed again, and paid a very harsh price. Ah well, it's not easy being one of the best teams in college football history.
