Thats fine, you made the playoffs and we beat you...As far as your system...you can teach a monkey to input numbers, but a monkey could answer why a team goes from plus 80 in quality of play to -3 when they covered the spread on the last game...Hope you don't gamble in the real world.

Oh darn. I wasted a month of everyone's time with a fraudulent spreadsheet. The shame, the guilt, the HORROR! Since it couldn't possibly be that you scored a lot of points and won and therefore adjusted all your predicted scores upwards, including scores against all the teams you had already played, and that the quality of play number is based on how far away your actual score is from the current predicted score, it must have been that the private forum members used a few more negative numbers when they posted that week.

I think the point is why is it such a wild swing?? I mean makes no sense. I do agree. Actually not trying to stir this up, and see you must spend a lot of time on it, but doesnt mean its flawless by any means, not that you said it was.

The real point is that it does make sense but doesn't matter. Nobody asked why your quality of play was increasing quickly while your team was on a three-game losing streak at the end of the season but it was for the same reason. When you win, expectations are raised; when you lose, expectations are lowered. As a 7-8 team, your total point spread was better than expected. As an 8-8 team, your total point spread was about what was expected. If you don't want to get Garrettfoster's spreadsheet and check out the QOP formula for yourself (I'm using that part without any changes), I'll try to explain what I said previously:

QOP = actual spread - predicted spread

The "wild swing" happened because the predicted scores and spread get updated after each week's games are entered. After your 257-0 win against Angola, the prediction for the same game changed from 225-3 to 254-3. Instead of +35 to your QOP, you had +6. With the same recalculation applied to 15 other games you already played, you no longer beat the total predicted point spread by 85+.

QOP serves its purpose as a tiebreaker for equal strength of record and that's all.
