Would be great if someone had spare time to work something like this up.
I've decided to scrap the Power Rankings for now and go with something new... it's a mixture of my personal opinion and my power rankings (meaning it gives me a little freedom to move someone up or down that I think the power rankings might be treating too favorably or unfavorably). Anyway, I hope you enjoy...
#1 Las Vegas Aces 11-0
The Aces squared off against one of their top competitors in the East this week, the Orlando Rats, and came out on top 27-13 behind a dominating passing attack the Rats had not seen the likes of before. QB Erik Perez went 25 of 38 for 247 yards and 2 TD's as Las Vegas jumped out to a 20-0 2nd quarter lead and never looked back.
Next up: the USA AA#3 game of the week at the #5 Boston Nighthawks
#2 Anchorage Penguins 11-0
The Penguins might not have the most talent in terms of levels, but when it comes to doing what matters most... winning... they get it done. They crushed the Seabrook Fire 51-0 with 564 yards of total offense while holding the Fire to only 107. Running backs Bender Rodriguez and Slash Rose had 176 and 158 yards rushing respectively running behind an offensive line that racked up over 90 pancakes.
Next Up: Another breeze versus the 1-9-1 Montana Terror
#3 Chicago Templars 10-1
The Templars proved they aren't a joke when they easily took care of the Tampa Sturm 20-0. Behind a dominating defense that forced 4 turnovers and allowed only 153 yards, Chicago jumped out to an early lead and was never threatened. TE Martin Benneton led the way on offense with 122 yards on 14 catches and a TD.
Up next: A cakewalk against the 4-7 Oceanside Dragons
#4 Las Vegas Gamblers 9-2
The Gamblers won their 5th straight against the Baltimore Brooklyn Brawlers 36-0 behind a stifling defense that allowed only 60 yards of total offense. The Gamblers defense has not allowed a TD now in 19 quarters. Las Vegas controlled the clock behind 392 yards of total offense on 86 plays and were led by the efficient passing of Tony Bithell who went 23 of 28 for 198 yards.
Next up: at the underrated 5-6 Philadelphia Wolverines
#5 - Boston Nighthawks 9-2
After starting the season 1-2, the Nighthawks have reeled off 8 straight wins including a much closer than anticipated 20-6 victory against Oklahoma City this week. Despite outgaining Oklahoma City 383-165, the Nighthawks had trouble putting the Maulers away and only had one offensive TD. If they want to upset the Aces this week, they're going to need better production.
Up next: hosting the #1 Las Vegas Aces
#6 - College Station Troopers 9-2
Like Boston, the Troopers started off slow at 3-2 but have steamrolled their last six opponents (including a 20-16 win against the #3 Templars) and are warming up just in time for the playoffs. This week they easily took care of the Fort Worth Texans with a 50-0 butt whoopin. The battle of Texas was really no battle at all as College Station outgained the Texans 602-85.
Up next: Another 100 points in the ledger as they face the 1-9-1 Baton Rouge Thrashers.
#7 - Tampa Sturm - 9-2
Despite the tough loss to the Templars, Tampa still remains one of the top teams in the USA AA#3. Their last five games should be a cakewalk for the Sturm so they can feel comfortable knowing they have at least one home playoff game.
Up next: at home against the feisty 5-6 San Antonio Wranglers
#8 - San Diego Frightening Lightning 8-3
After starting out 4-3, fans in San Diego had to be wondering what was wrong with their Lightning. Those three losses, however, were to the #2 Penguins (0-6), #3 Templars (10-23), and #7 Sturm (0-17). In the games they're supposed to win, the Lightning have done the job including a 48-3 thrashinh of the Thrashers this week. The question that remains to be answered though is can San Diego win against a top notch team? We'll find out soon enough as their schedule over the next three weeks is one of the tougher ones in the league.
Up next: at home against the 6-5 Sherman Oaks G-Men.
#9 - Atlanta Mudcats 8-3
The Mudcats came out of the gates with their claws bared and started 6-1. Two losses in a row to the Rats and Nighthawks left team ownership shaking their head but they seem to have righted the ship with consecutive wins including a 56-7 cooling down of the Wolf Creek Fire. The Mudcats have a breather this week before taking on the #1 Aces the following week.
Up next: at home against the 1-9-1 Oklahoma City Maulers
#10 - Orlando Rats - 8-3
The Rats face the same troubling question as San Diego. Can they beat a top team? Their losses have come to the #1 Aces (this week 27-13), the #4 Gamblers, and the #5 Nighthawks. Fortunately for the Rats they will have plenty of time to prepare to answer that question as they only play one team with a winning record in the last 5 games.
Up next: at home against the 3-8 NFLSpot Spotters
Just missing the Power 10: Staten Island 8-3, Jacksonville 7-4, Rocky Mountain 7-4
Game of the Week: #1 Las Vegas Aces against the #5 Boston Nighthawks. This matchup is closer than you might expect and the Nighthawks have an excellent chance of snapping the Aces long winning streak and adding to their own. It'll come down to Roger Rocket and whether or not he turns it over or not. In the end though, the Aces will just take advantage of some mismatches agaisnt Boston's defense and pull away. Aces 24 Nighthawks 16
Upset of the Week:
In a shocker special, the Seabrook Fire take care of the Rocky Mountain Thunder and win 20-17.
