Rolled a First Step AEQ today for my RG and I'm very intrigued by the possibilities. Is the First Step SA any good for a RG?
Surely the acceleration boost would benefit Pancake production.

You'd want two pieces, to get to a total of +8, to really have it useful

Yeah, I wouldn't say it's worth it. My RG has one piece of Quick Cut and rolled a second, though, so I'm hoping that getting up to 8 of that eventually will be pretty good...

I never found it to be beneficial. There are better options.

I had only 1 piece with my old Center for a couple of seasons. +4 doesn't do much. But who knows how long it could take to shop for 2 pieces of First Step.

First step is easy to find early in your career. Run block, pass block, quick cut, and first step are the only available SAs. Then as you level-up, more and more SAs become available in the tree.

So yeah, if you want 2 quick cut/first step, grab them at level 5 or something. They wont come with anything, but oh well.

I think first step could be good if you like SAs.
The nature of its description seems as though it could benefit any position that needs to act asap at the snap (which is any position on either side of the ball)
The problem is, don't they act fast enough anyway? It's up to you.

I think your "push" on a block, as well as your ability to pancake on a given play, is determined by your velocity at impact.

Thus high first step = more speed when you hit them = better push or more pancakes.

This would be helpful for run blocking. However watch in pass blocking.. o-line moves back... first step does nothing.

If anything, first step needs to be looked at from a run blocking perspective. I consider it 100% worthless for pass blocking. That is where you want quick cut at 8.

do you know for sure that first step doesn't apply backward as well as forward? getting off the line quickly is essential for a LOT blocking an agile rusher to keep him from getting around the edge. the others on the line aren't really working in space as much so it wouldn't really help, I can see that, but for an OT it seems like it could be useful. So I'm curious what you base your conclusion on and how certain you are.
