GAME OF THE WEEK

Maine Hawks v Martha's Vineyard Ballbusters
This is not only a matchup of two contenders for home playoff games, but also a clash of traditional BBB 16 rivals, making it the game of the week choice. Neither team was tested first game out and looked impressive. This game should be fairly even and go to the fourth close. I am going to make a bit of a homer call here and I like Maine's D a little better than MV's. Maine 28, Martha's Vineyard 24.

OTHER GAMES:

Furious George v Buffalo Beasts
Furious introduced themselves to A with a massive drubbing of their hapless West foe. Buffalo likes to start slow before circling the wagons later in the year and showed that by falling in a close match to Bakersfield. I could see this one staying close early, but Furious has a lot more horses in the race. Furious 45, Buffalo 17.

Montana Grizzlies v Bowdoin Polar Bears
Two teams that have been in A for a while square off. Montana took last year's game handily. Montana just destroyed a halfway decent West team and has much more talent than Bowdoin. Montana 55, Bowdoin 10.

Atlanta Wolves v Houghton Gremlins
Last season this might have been the game of the week choice, but Houghton has gone the way of the Do Do Bird, while Atlanta looks better than ever. Atlanta 255, Houghton 0.

Da NOLA Brah!!! K&B Purples v Detroit Outlaws
Da NOLA looked very impressive first game out while Detroit was welcomed rudely to A by the Spartans of the West, who claim to be from the Southside. Anyway Da NOLA probably sees themselves of a season ago in Detroit. Da NOLA 35, Detroit 20.

Manhattan Massacre v Pittsburgh Powerhouse
Both teams won their first game and both are traditional A squads. Manhattan looks to be back on the upswing and Pittsburgh might be better than expected. Manhattan won last season 24-23 in a very good game. This season might be close as well, but I think Manhattan is on their way back. Manhattan 31, Pittsburgh 21.

Vice City Mambas v New Orleans Poison
Unlike last season when their schedule started out very tough, VC gets some early breaks. This time in the form of a gutted Poison team. Vice City 255, New Orleans 0.

Detroit Diablos v Welsh Dragons
These two teams know each other well, with Welsh beating Detroit in last season's BBB championship for their division. Detroit's first game this season was much kinder than Welsh's but Welsh still has more talent and should take this one. Welsh 28, Detroit 24.

I can't believe a Houghton game has come to this. They were one of the first squads to start (re)building the right way; before 'slow build' was even a common term. Sad to see 'em go.
