24 actually only takes place over maybe a 10-15 period at the longest. Even though I know that the cliff hangers are annoying and how most of the time you can predict it now...that goes with most TV shows. They all have formulas that they find that work and most of them stick to it with some minor changes to how characters interact. I love 24 and think it's one of the best shows on television (along with House and How I Met Your Mother) since they always find ways to get Jack in trouble with the government...then he gets out...then he gets in trouble..then saves their asses again. For the Presidents he's gone through it's been 9 (including acting presidents taking over for presidents for various reasons) but Jack always finds a way to be a bad ass terrorist killer. There have been plenty of original sub story lines in the season that you have to see (like the CTU attacks in 2, 4, and 6).
