Every year I open up my build to solicit advice and (hopefully) praise for my left tackle. He's a season 1 build so I've made plenty of mistakes along the way, but I think I've done well enough that he's still one of the better tackles out there. Anyway, here are his stats:

http://goallineblitz.com/game/player.pl?player_id=101175
Physical Attributes
Strength: 78.39 (82.31 with VA)
Speed: 50.13
Agility: 67 (77.05 with VA)
Jumping: 9
Stamina: 49.41
Vision: 55.32
Confidence: 50.77

Football Skills
Blocking: 89.27 (99.96 with VA)
Catching: 7
Tackling: 28.41
Throwing: 8
Carrying: 9
Kicking: 7
Punting: 9

Special Abilities
Pass Blocking Abilities
Pass Block: 5
Shock Block: 3
Foundation: 5
Absorb Pain: 5
Protector: 11

Run Blocking Abilities
Run Block: 3
Get Low: 2
Hands: 2
Cut Block: 2
Pancake: 2

Veteran Abilities
Quick: 15
Great Blocker: 15
Workout Warrior: 6

My thought is that I'll first take strength from 65.9 to 68.9 (9 points) and then bump agility from 67.63 to 68.63 (3 more). I'll probably put a pair of points into vision and then bank the last one for my first level up. I'll be able to get strength to 69.9 and agility to 69.63 right away due to having both at 97 and 99% trained.

Would you do the same? And how is that for a crappy season 1 build? I've got a second generation guy hitting his mid 30's right now and am starting a brand new OT as well, so any advice on where I might have messed up with this one would be nice to apply to my second and third generation tackles.

Yep, it looks like you have recovered well.

I know its not a LOT guide but the guide below is not bad. Personally I am building a new OT and I took strength to 61 first. Next I plan to take blocking to 68 or 72 followed by agility to 68. I figure that will give me a great base to start with then I will go from there.

Good luck.

Yeah I just saw Octowned's guide and I immediately passed it along to a slowbuild team I'm starting up for season 9. It's pretty easy to build a great OT and that guide is the perfect blueprint. All you have to do, IMO, if you want to build a LOT is to switch over to capping BLK before STR at 60 and 68 - but everything else is just as important on either side. The SAs will also change (want to get 4 or 5 into Protector at LOT) as well - but that's way way down the line.

Good build for a season one. I think the most impressive thing is that despite all the changes and certain confusion with what makes a good OT, you've managed to come out with a good build, and much better than the average season one.

I think hitting those 3rd cap marks is a good idea but wouldn't try for 4th caps as you don't have much more time. Maybe after the strength and agility to 68 you just round the build out further with SAs and possibly speed to 55-60.

I think your 2nd and 3rd generation builds will look similar, with similar ratios, but will look this way around level 40-45, minus the SAs and will have much higher attributes by their 9th season.

Great season one build, no major mistakes, which are usually made in the SA department.

As previously stated, your best options are to make sure str/blk/agi are all at 68 base.

After that, you could benefit from some vision, or even tinker with taking speed up even higher.

The reason you could start spending speed to 60 in your last couple of seasons before decline is twofold... DEs still continue to improve in spd/agi so even if you're doing fine now, investing in spd/agi yourself is never a bad option. And probably more importantly, if you have the energy to play special teams, having speed to 60 will make you one heck of a special teams blocker as well.

So yeah, my likely plan with your build would be to take speed and vision to 60. If you have trouble with energy on special teams and go the speed route, speed + stamina is a good training spot. Otherwise, while it may be slow, speed + agility is fine as well. I'd probably avoid training something like vision + confidence, just because I think your confidence is good enough anyway.
