I was wondering if anyone else noticed when exactly Bort increased the effect of confidence on morale and performance?

http://goallineblitz.com/game/roster.pl?team_id=5928

Looking at ECA's roster, after losing 5 straight games we have several players with a morale of 88. They all have confidence issues w/ most of them having confidence in the low 20's. Our guys with confidence in the upper 30's have considerably better morale.

I remember a time in the game when 1 loss = 1 morale point loss for a player regardless of his confidence levels. Does anybody know in which season Bort increased the importance of confidence on morale? Did he announce it and I simply missed it?

P.S.-just looked at the roster a little more and we actually have a guy with 32 confidence who's at 88 morale right now, so I give up on figuring this game out.

i'm not sure, but we were talking about this the other day. check out the PF game against roman a couple weeks ago.

http://goallineblitz.com/game/game.pl?game_id=398327

the opening drive we force a turnover on downs then easily march down the field and score. the very next play was a big play, we got powerbacked to shit (http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=398327&pbp_id=15592144). after that, the drive chart looks like this:

pf: 3 and out
roman: easy drive capped by another big 35 yard powerback run
pf: 3 and out
roman: forced to punt
pf: 3 and out
roman: easy drive capped by a 23 yard td pass

then the next big play occurs. on the next drive, ibomb throws a 51 yard td pass (http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=398327&pbp_id=15593169). after that, the drive chart looks like:

roman: 3 and out
pf: easy drive capped by a td run
roman: end of half
pf: easy drive capped by a td run

the next drive, roman gets a 32 yard pass on 3rd and 7 and the game seems fairly even from there on out.

could be coincidence, but it seems to me like morale pretty much dictated the first half of that game. each team had a big play which led to 21 unanswered points for their team.

Yeah not sure the exact math. But all of my linemen have confidence in the upper 30's to low 40's and it seems to help quite a bit. My HB also has pretty high confidence, and still performs well after a fumble, or TFL.

I've felt this season if you go 3 and out, you seem to play bad for a bit until you make a few nice drive and we have had slow starts to games with 3 and outs and only picked it up after trailing 14-0.

Its an intresting concept that you have MC and i think it adds to realism in the game this season as when our offense gets shut down for a few drives it takes a big play to get back up.

Thank you very much for taking the time for the input guys, especiall you Lambda. I have noticed some very similar things happening this season with us. For what it's worth in the beginning of the season we seemed to be very slow starters offensively and just needed to "weather the storm" to have a good chance to win in the 2nd half.

The 2nd half of our season has obviously been quite different, and lately we have had no trouble scoring early on--it's been finishing the game that has been killing us.

Some things I've noticed that may help us all figure out what is going on:

1. The "Never Give Up" veteran ability or whatever it's called. Where you have to be trailing by X amount of points for it to activate, but here's the kicker--there's a 50 confidence prerequisite. What does THAT tell us about the game? That the further your team falls behind in a game (i.e. ECA vs. Kobenhavn or Parma, blowouts) the greater confidence you will need for your players to keep performing at their best.

2. The "Motivational Speaker" veteran ability. I'm not sure if there is a prereq for this ability or not, but it does at least let it know that it's probably a good idea to have an offensive and defensive player on your team with this ability so you can have a chance of activating it at all times--it obviously only works when the player is NOT on the field.

3. What do you guys think about the General special abilities, Field General, Defensive General, etc.?? that give morale and stamina boosts for the entire line or secondary? We don't really have anyone on our team w/ these abilities built up just yet (most of us are in the low/mid 30's).

4. Also in regards to confidence-to-morale-loss-ratio, I know morale fluctuates throughout the game on an individual basis w/ missed tackles, deflections, etc., but what about the entire team? How is the team affected by what Lambda was talking about--giving up big 3rd and long conversions, huge broken tackle plays, etc.

Sorry for the lengthy post but I feel like this is the best way to get a firm understanding of the game--at least until the next time Bort changes it.

p.s.-we had 2 pick-6s in our loss to Manchester and our defense still gave the game away in the 2nd half, so I'm about as confused as it gets over this issue.

yea we thoroughly outplayed them as well and lost, that game hurt to lose.

As far as the general skills go, we've always liked them a lot and have them boosted up decently. I definitely like them.

Not as much as it did us--kept us out of the playoffs.

And don't get me wrong, Manchester is a solid team and my hat's off to them...I'm trying to understand this game a little better so I can win more because ultimately I am a competitive person and I like to win.

well, obviously morale is just a part of all the equations. low morale is going to give you a smaller chance to complete a particular pass or break a particular tackle, but it's certainly not going to make it impossible to do so.

Well Bort did say once that Confidence was without a doubt the most underrated by almost everyone. The way I've come to treat confidence is that it needs to be to the first cap regardless of what position you player plays. By what level really depends on the player and the competition though, but for the most part I say it needs to be maxed after you have got your primary attributes where they need to be.
