Come on, we all know it's true.
Put this together for the whiny radio hosts and others right after SB 40. Looks like your gameplan is as good as the Seahawks. The gameplan that I have put together against your team is now 2-0.
I'm sorry that the Steelers won the game with the help of the officiating.
I'm sorry that the Seattle bungled their first 2 offensive drives by some poor play selection once they got to midfield.
I'm sorry that T. Rouen didn't take advantage of the field position by pinning the Steelers deep in their zone. I'm sorry that he kicked it into the endzone and gave the Steelers some breathing room to start their drives.
I'm sorry that Pittsburgh ended Seattle's first drive with a sack after Seattle had their way with Pittsburgh by passing to midfield. I'm sorry that Seattle switched gears and tried to run. I'm sorry that it left them in 2nd, 3rd and long downs at the end of that drive. At least the officials didn't impact this drive too much
only a holding penalty that was declined on the sack play.
I'm sorry that the officials helped out the Steelers by calling a holding penalty on Seattle on their second drive. 3rd and 16 is way too long to even dream of converting for a first down for a veteran Pro Bowl quarterback such as Hasselbeck. On the bright side, the drive stalled at the Sea 49 which should help maintain the field advantage in the game.
I'm sorry that the Steelers went 3 and out on their first 3 possessions (would call them drives, but no first downs were made so I will call them possessions) while only gaining a net of 7 yards. Maybe some less yards, a fumble, a couple more penalties, an interception would have helped the Seattle cause because at this point, Seattle was outplaying Pittsburgh at all levels and should have been able to seize the opportunities that were presented to them throughout the 1st and a good portion of the 2nd quarter.
I'm sorry that the Seahawks only ended up with a Field Goal instead of the much deserved touchdown on their 3rd drive. Starting from the Seattle 49, they had a golden opportunity here. I'm sorry that the back judge called offensive pass interference. I'm sorry the back judge wasn't one of the commentators so that he could have properly made the correct judgment call that is a no call 9 out of 10 times (notice this is not 10 out of 10
it has been infrequent, but it has been called OPI before). I'm sorry that D. Jackson was the intended WR instead of a receiver like Irvin, Rice, Carter, or any other WR that gets preferential treatment or the opportunity to put a hand on a defender (just like a Jordan against Utah). I'm sorry that Jackson put his hand on Hope to even allow a judgment call to be made. Jackson had the clear advantage and a silly hand on the defender in front of an official should never allow for a judgment call to be made.
I'm sorry that this resulted in 1 and 20 from the Steelers 26. I'm sorry that the play selection of run, run did not net Seattle any positive yards and that Hackett couldn't pull down the 3rd down throw to the endzone when he had roughly a 7" height advantage on McFadden. I must be very naοve to think that Seattle could overcome this setback and possibly score. No team should have to endure this type of treatment - to have to overcome adversity and poor calls. If only Pittsburgh could have given Seattle 8 chances at this point to score like they gave Cincinnati if the wildcard game.
I'm sorry that after Seattle took a 3-0 lead (should have been 7-0), Pittsburgh once again did a 3 and out. Pittsburgh gained a grand total of 0 yards here to help the Seahawk cause.
I'm sorry that on the change of possession, a holding call occurred against the Seahawks and negated a good runback. Holding penalties on punt returns are rare. I was quite shocked that a call would be called here
especially since the Seattle team got screwed in the NFC championships on a holding flag that was picked up and costed them 7 points there.
I'm sorry that this possession started at the Seattle 25 instead of the Pittsburgh 46. I am sure the holding was inconsequential and had no bearing on the great return.
I'm sorry that once Seattle got to midfield again, they used running plays to try and move forward. I'm sorry that they did not see the advantages they had while passing to not continue this trend. On 3rd and 2, I'm sorry that Hope made a hit on Stevens that broke up a great pass to Stevens. I am thankful that the ball that he fumbled away after the hit, was determined to be an incomplete pass on the field that could not be reviewed. Luckily, it was a play where there was no opportunity to see if he caught the ball, made a football move, fumbled it away with Steelers defenders around it to make a potentially game momentum changing play. I am thankful there were no penalties on Seattle to disrupt this drive.
I'm sorry that T. Rouen once again kicked it into the endzone where a Seattle played played it while standing in the endzone.
I'm sorry that the Steelers started to click on offense a bit. I'm sorry that they got their 1st 2 first downs on this drive (we can finally call one of their possessions a drive at this point). I am sorry that the Steelers used a trick play that allowed Ward to gain 18 yards get tackled in bounds to out of bounds and cause Manuel from the Seahawks to get injured. Thankfully, there was no unnecessary roughness called on Manuel for the driving Ward into the ground when out of bounds (Polamalu has been the recipient of this penalty many times this season while being aggressive near the side lines.)
I'm sorry that the interception Roethlisberger threw to Boulware (or underthrow to Randle El) wasn't taking advantage of. I'm sorry that this was the 1st 3 and out for Seattle on their side of the field. I am thankful there were no penalties on Seattle to disrupt this drive.
I'm sorry that Pittsburgh discovered a malformed offense during this series which included an awkward looking shovel / heave pass to Ward for the first down. I'm sorry that the Seattle defense didn't stiffen up once the Steelers got within Seahawk territory. There must have been something illegal when Wilson caught the 20 yard pass.
Thankfully, there was a penalty (finally) on Pittsburgh for Offensive Pass Interference changing a 3rd and 5 from the Sea 17 to a 2nd and 20 from the Sea 32. With a sack to make it 3rd and 28 from the Sea 40, everything seems fair and right in the world. There is no way a quarterback can convert a 3rd and 28
there is no way a stout Seattle defense should give up a conversion of a 3rd and 28 play.
I'm sorry that Roethlisberger had the presence of mind to roll out of the pocket away from the pressure, to keep his wits about him to stay behind the 40 yard line, to get a lucky pass off to Ward at the 3 yard line, to have no holding call be made on the Steelers lineman, or to have Boulware whiff on his pass defense. There is no way this should be completed and it never has a detrimental impact on the defense (refer to Phil vs Green Bay playoff game 1/11/04).
I'm sorry that the sideline judge made a judgment call that Roethlisberger got the tip of the ball to graze the beginning of the chalkline of the endzone. I'm sorry he hesitated and we can not read minds to determine what he was thinking running to spot the ball (was he thinking "I'll mark it at the 2" line with the nose on the chalk - oh wait, that would be a touchdown" or "Oh look, he is on the ground and the ball is on the chalk so touchdown") (By the way, I would take the official's vantage point over Roethlisberger's to determine if the nose of the ball might have grazed the vertical plane of the chalkline.)
I'm sorry that with a play review (remember, Madden and Michaels were wondering why the red flag was not thrown
well it was under 2 minutes so it goes up to the booth
doesn't look like they were on top of their game that night - - maybe Madden will be a bit off later when he says a holding penalty shouldn't have been called), there was not indisputable evidence to overturn it or at the very least show the TV audience that the nose would have broken the vertical beginning of the chalkline edge when he was in midair. I'm sorry that it was 3rd down and we will never know if this would have been made mute with a conversion on 4th down or a potential once in a blue moon fumble or a goalline stand with Seattle with the ball back on the 3" line with who knows what happens in those scenarios.
I'm sorry that Seattle squandered an opportunity to put some points up on the board at the end of the half through poor clock management and play selection. 2 timeouts left / 1st and 10 at the Sea 27 @ 1:46, 1st and 10 on the Sea 46 @ 1:26, and 1st and 10 on the Pit 40 @ 0:54 should have been ample time for the high octane west coast offense to get a good position to score some points. I'm sorry that Hasselbeck threw the ball a bit out-of-bounds where Jackson caught it without both feet in bounds and that a replay was not called from upstairs to confirm his apparent touchdown catch or non catch. I'm sorry Hasselbeck was not a bit more crisp with his passes to take advantage of the end of the first half. I am thankful there were no penalties on Seattle to disrupt this drive.
I'm sorry Brown missed a 54 yard field goal when he earlier made a 47 yard field goal down the center of the uprights.
I'm sorry the above plays (Pittsburgh's touchdown and Seattle's overturned touchdown) so infuriated Holmgrem that he couldn't think straight and make some halftime adjustments to improve the effectiveness of the Seattle's offense once they got into Pittsburgh territory.
I'm sorry that on the 2nd play of the 2nd half that Parker ran for a 75 yard touchdown. There must have been holding somewhere to bring it back.
I'm sorry that the Seahawks could not answer the Steelers touchdown with a score. I'm sorry that the Steelers stopped them at the 32 yard line of the Steelers. I am thankful there were no penalties on Seattle to disrupt this drive. I'm sorry Brown missed a 50 yard field goal when he earlier made a 47 yard field goal down the center of the uprights.
I'm sorry that the Steelers started clicking on offense. I'm sorry that the running game and passing game came alive. I am thankful that the helmet to helmet hit on Ward was not called to give the Steelers an additional 15 yards.
I am thankful that Roethlisberger reverted back to his Patriots game and threw a gift interception to the backup safety that was returned a SB record 76 yards to the Pitt 20. That gave the Seahawks an opportunity to capitalize on a mistake by the Steelers and the officials didn't take it away from them. Thankfully, there was no call for block in the back
thankfully the judgment was correct and Roethlisberger was hit when we was slightly turned to the play. I'm sorry that Randle El is fast and tackled Herdon before he got to the endzone.
I am thankful that the Seahawks finally scored with a well designed crossing route that picked Polamalu away from Stevens. Stevens should start taking advantages of the passes that are being thrown his way. I am thankful there were no penalties on Seattle to disrupt this drive.
I am thankful that Steelers gave the Seahawks an opportunity after this score by going 3 and out.
I'm sorry the Seahawks did not take advantage of this opportunity by going 3 and out with a false start penalty.
I am thankful that Steelers gave the Seahawks another opportunity by going 3 and out. There was an opportunity for Seahawks to make plays to take control of the game again.
I'm sorry that the following drive was thrown off by an offensive holding when Seahawks were going to be 1st and goal at the 1. I am sorry that it was a phantom hold / a judgment call that was made a crucial juncture for the Seahawks. I am sure Haggans was offsides; there is no way he could have gotten the snap count timing down!!! He did not have a path to the quarterback and had the offensive lineman impeding him from the side!!! This has never been called a penalty before!!!! This would not account for an extra second or two for Hasselbeck to pass!!! Even Madden said it was not holding and he was on the top of his game all game long!!!
I'm sorry that this caused a 1st and 20 on the Pitt 29 to be the result. How can one think a team can overcome this adversity???? I am sure the 49ers with Montana or Young would have surely not been able to handle this adversity, would have wilted under the pressure. I'm sorry that the Steelers sacked Hasselbeck on the 1st down, that Alexander made minimal yards on 2nd, and that Porter went into pass coverage to disrupt Hasselbeck and influence him to throw an off target pass which got intercepted. A QB can not be expected to overcome a penalty and convert a critical 3rd down in the opponent's territory of greater than 17 yards. I have not seen it done all game long.
I'm sorry about the penalty on Hasselbeck on the runback
that has never been called before. It was a poor call, but not a backbreaker
start at the Pitt 44 instead of the Pitt 29
Seattle never had the opportunity to start with such good field position. (For reference, Pittsburgh had 2 of those low blocks called on them during the season, vs. Cin and vs. Ind - while rare and while very subjective, it would have never been an area to make a call without a poor throw by a stressed QB.)
I'm sorry that Pittsburgh converted a 3red and 2 before the backbreaker pass.
I'm sorry that the secondary of Seattle got fooled on the end around pass and left Ward for a free pass to the endzone. This has never been seen before, with the exception of a Cleveland game. I am sorry the Seattle defense was banged up and the Pittsburgh offense took advantage of the new players in the secondary.
I'm glad that the replay got it right for Seattle on the next series to get the ball back to them on a Hasselbeck fumble. I am thankful Farrior managed to get a hand on Hasselbeck to keep the drive alive. At least the replay officials got that one right for the Seahawks.
I'm sorry the drive stalled on the Pittsburgh 47 after which a sack would make it 4th and 13 on the Sea 48 with 6:28 remaining and 2 scores down. I'm sorry that they didn't make enough plays during the drive to bring them within scoring position. I'm sorry they didn't attempt to go for it with so little time left.
I'm sorry that the Steelers converted 2 critical 3rd downs during their possession, I mean drive. I am sorry they kept the clock moving during the entire drive.
I'm sorry that the Steelers only gave the Seahawks 1:51 to work with to try and rally from 11 down. I am sorry the Steelers kept the Seahawks inbounds during key plays. I am sorry the ending play for Seattle was a dropped pass by Stevens at the 3rd line.
Overall:
I'm sorry that the Seahawks didn't capitalize on opportunities throughout the game.
I'm sorry that the Seahawks were not effective in their trips into the Pittsburgh territory (9 times).
I'm sorry that the Seahawks stalled when they got inside Pittsburgh territory.
I'm sorry that the Seahawks play selection around midfield was quite poor.
I'm sorry that T. Rouen didn't pin the Steelers deep in their own territory.
I'm sorry that Brown missed field goals.
I'm sorry that the officials had an impact on the game through the use of their judgment calls.
I'm sorry that Seattle could not overcome challenges / adversity that were thrown their way.
I'm sorry that Steven made some key drops throughout the game.
I'm sorry that Jackson made catches out of bounds.
I'm sorry that Alexander did not make a bigger impact in the game.
I'm sorry that the Seahawks had very poor clock management at the end of halves.
I'm sorry that Seattle felt it was Seattle versus Pittsburgh and Officials.
I'm sorry that the Steelers made 4 big plays and Seahawks made 1.
I'm sorry that the Steelers were more effective in the Seahawks territory.
I'm sorry that Pittsburgh's coaching adjustments were more effective than Seattle's.
I'm sorry the final score was Pittsburgh 21, Seattle 10.
