How does vision help my guard and is it acuatly important?

or if you try to get to the second level and lay a block, or pull for blocking on screens/sweeps...

I can see tetura's comment working with vision, but I always see people suggesting it helps you pick up the blitz, and I haven't seen any evidence. To the contrary, I have seen Guards with 50+ vision on my teams just stand there while the ROLB blows right past them. What do you need? 60? 68? I don't see the logic in spending SP on my vision when I can spend on basically anything else and see benefits from it.
