Bobby, I'm going to say you guys beat us last year. jdawg and I were ready to kill our OC most of the season because it seemed like he refused to run the ball like we thought we should.
I'm not making excuses for this season. I wish you guys hadn't already gone CPU. I would have loved to have scrimmaged you and put you in your place. You basically ran maybe 2 pass plays. I will admit that I messed up one thing in the D AI that helped you with your two long running plays. That's my fault. At the same time, I wasn't going to show anyone that I knew how to shut down the slant passing attack. I had hoped someone would rely on it during the playoffs so I could catch them off guard.
If you don't understand what I mean by slant spamming, I almost exclusively ran plays like this one:
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=309877&pbp_id=9851217At that time, slants were almost impossible for a CB to stop. If you want to say I'm just complaining, look at this game:
http://goallineblitz.com/game/game.pl?game_id=357295OFG is a top team in USA PRO. The Windsor Cheetahs spammed that play all game long. It's like the WR screen was at the beginning of last season. You pretty much have to ignore all others plays and set your AI to defend it, if you hope to stop it. Or at least, that's how it was until the playoffs. For some reason, it seemed like it wasn't as hard to defend in the playoffs. Maybe that's because we gave our CBs a good dose of agility and vision. Either way, you couldn't win without heavily relying on those plays. I scouted you guys and new that. I told jdawg about it, but I planned on using my AI. I wanted 16-0, but if you guys beat us, that meant that just maybe I could show the conference a "weakness" they could exploit in the playoffs. That way, once we got to the playoffs, I could surprise teams by shutting down what they thought was our weakness.
If you think I'm kidding, you have no clue just how devious I can be when it comes to smokescreens. I was really hoping ESM didn't pull it out in the regular season, but I was prepared to go 14-2 if I had to in order to maintain the smokescreen that we couldn't stop the slant pass. Luckily, either no one noticed or had more integrity than to use the slant pass only(yeah Hulk, I'm talking about you and Sahara for sure).
I'm going to stop now, but let's just say this, this season's win was pretty much a win from me. You don't know how badly I've wanted to tell you from the moment we lost. However, I refused to reveal my hand to the rest of AAA. jdawg wanted me to say something right before the playoffs when you made the comment about wanting to play us and I told you that you didn't want to. I told him I wasn't going to because I hoped we could play you so I could shut you up with the sim. I didn't want you or any of the other teams knowing I could stop that pass. I really wanted to play you in the playoffs to I could shut you down when you thought you would use the same gameplan and continue to use the slant pass as about the only pass play you used.
If you don't believe me, you can ask jdawg. Now, I won't downplay the job you did on defense, but offensively, I can't really give you that much credit. Not for this year. If it had simply been a play that exploited what we did defensively, I could give you some credit. However, that play was working unless you played it exactly perfect and even then, it still got through. Two teams Hulk and pthlatemagic are on spent an entire scrimmage trying to find ways to stop that play consistently. One of those teams is OFG. So, if a top USA Pro team spent an entire scrimmage trying to figure out how to stop it, then you know there's something to it.
Wait, I will give you credit offensively for one thing. You caught me off guard with the whole put the WR at TE swap. I didn't expect that.
