I was thinking about my curent ROT and his future. More to the point I am thinking of adjusting his eq. I would like to think that in the near future more balanced players will rule GLB. I am not saying 50 in each skill. I mean 70+ in 3 or 4 skills instead of 90+ in one skill and all other skills get neglected. I could be way off but I know that building for today only leads to disapointment. So I would like to build for the future if possible.

With this in mind what skills do we think will be most important to a ROT in the future. I think that Blocking should be number 1 for all O linemen. Its pretty much their job. Strength and agility are obvious as well but the big question is how much of each for the future. I am also thinking that vision, speed, stamina and confidence are important in that order.

So with this im mind and the wisdom of the agents with OTs in this forum. I ask how crazy of an idea is the build I am proposing below?

61 strength +8 eq to make 70+ over time.
68 blocking +4 eq +6 CE to make 80+ over time.
61 agility +8 eq to make 70+ over time.
50 speed
61 vision +8 eq to make 69.
Train stamina and confidence forever.

The above plan would be to put level 1, 8, and 16 eq into strength and blocking along with CE into blocking. Level 24 and 32 eq into agility. Then level 40 and 48 eq into vision. This is a long way down the road for my OT but I hope that balance will help him vs all types of DE. Any thoughts on this idea? Or should I just go 60 strength, 80+ blocking, 50+ speed and 80+ agility like everybody else?

Why so much vision?

Is 50 Speed enough?

Where would the VAs go?

I really just want to see how an O lineman would do with more than 50 in vision. Bort and others have said in many forum posts that 50 is not a lot of anything. So my point is that I would like to pick 4 of the most important skills and take them to or past 70 to see how a player performs.

My theory involves the fact that Bort or somebody took the time to define 3 attribute categories which are Physical Attributes, Mental Attributes, and Football Skills.

I figure if I take two Physical Attributes to 60 and add eq to make 70 I will havea good athlete. If I take the primary Football Skill to 60+ and add eq I will have a player good at his position. Finally I figure if I take a Mental Attribute to 60 and add eq that will be the last piece to make a well balanced player.

I have no idea how more than 50 vision will work for a O lineman. I would hope it makes him seek out defenders instead of spazing out with nobody to block. Maybe more vision won't do anything. Thats why its last on my list.

VAs really don't matter with this build. I am really trying to apply my theory of splitting up eq 4 ways and getting 4 skills to or past 70 instead of the normal strategy of 2 skills past 80 or 90 or 100.

Its kind of just a theory right now. I am just wondering if anybody else has tried something like this or if its to crazy.

I think it's a bit short sighted. An OT can get strength, blocking, and agility all to 68 and still have over 50 vision and speed. Then try your vision experiments and see whether it provides a noticeable benefit.

I think you'll end up with a weak ROT. Need more STR. Need more BLK. No reason an OT heading into their 7th season shouldn't be pushing 100 str/blk.

The more I think about it the more I think you are right. I would expect strength to be worth more in the future. My plans for vision are probably to high. High agility still seems to be a must have for OTs. I am thinking about splitting eq 3 ways between strength, agility and blocking.

Here is food to chew on for an OT.

#1 job - stopping the pass rush. However, this is really a cliff. You either stop the pass rush 99% of the time or fail spectacularly. Speed only needs to be high enough to stop the pass rush. Add more speed if you run into trouble. Vision needs to be high, but not that high since picking up blitzers isn't your job, even though you do it sometimes.

#2 job - run blocking - need to make and hold blocks for a long time against high speed/agi DE's...this means you need a lot of blk/agi. strength also helps out because DE's are low str and the more you can cake a DE and demoralize him the less of a threat he becomes in pass rushing. you'll also drain his stamina if you are a lot stronger.

don't forget about VA's....they can really help out your end build. By L40 expect to have 15-20 to play with. So, it's entirely possible to use VA's instead of shifting EQ. Use every tool at your disposal.

actually there is a good reason...it's because 90 is plenty..

as far as splitting eq, imo split eq 2 ways, and split VAs 2 ways. use the most eq on the naturally lowest of the 3 (ie whichever got to 68 last most likely) and use VA on whichever is the highest. but i haven't seen much need for over 75 agility total.

90 may be plenty in EE Pro - but not even close in every other league. You really can't judge if you're used to the rather less than average builds in EE Pro. Nothing to bash you, but you wouldn't believe it unless you actually see it happen.
