If you weren't a chamorro you were pretty much fucked at all off base schools. I have heard though, that now there are on base schools..is this true? I was there in 88-90.
Originally posted by DrJeep I know growing up in Hawaii really sucked. Similar situation to Guam, but I've heard there are on base schools now there so I imagine Guam may also.
Growing up in Hawaii as a Mainlander sucked. There was a big rift between Islanders and Mainlanders. It was the most prejudice place I've ever lived. Beautiful place to live, yes... it just sucked to live there for me.

I felt that way at first but not anymore. I don't feel that isolation thing because the island isn't small at all, it's fucking huge. It's not like it can be driven around in 30 minutes. But to each his own. Where do you live now?
Now I'm living in Atlanta, GA. I really didn't mind the island. I was on a Submarine for 6 years. If you don't feel isolated on a submarine, you're not going to anywhere else haha. For me it was all about the people there. Tourists they are fine with, but try and put down roots... well that is another story.
I'm hoping to move to the beach at some point after my doctorate. Thinking SC or the Georgia coast.
