Predictions:
Cape Town Crusaders vs Nigerian Nightmares
Cameroon Tarzans vs Lagos Eagles
Detroit Drive-By vs Pygmy Death Squad
Zulu Brotherhood vs Algeria Desert Foxes
Rwanda Riot vs Impending Doom
Texas Armadillos vs Rabat Death Stalkers
Strong Badia Tires vs Swaziland Dachshunds
Zimbabwe Bulls vs Kenyan Knights
Games to Watch:
Detroit Drive-by (9-0) vs Pygmy Death Squad (9-0)
This isn't the game of the week, it's the game of the season. The two CLEAR conference top dogs going head to head, both trying to preserve that unblemished record. The Death Squad has been riding just behind Detroit in the power rankings all season, quite unhappily I might add, so this is their chance to earn the respect they feel this team deserves. Detroit has looked dominant so far this season, but their last game against Zimbabwe showed a small crack in the armor . . . they will have to play harder this week to keep their season going. Basically this is a game between the best passing team in the conference vs the best rushing team in the conference. In the end I think Detroit will manage to do what the Pygmy's last 29 straight opponents have not been able to . . . come out with a win.
Zulu Brotherhood (3-6) vs Algeria Desert Foxes (3-6)
This game has serious playoff implications for the two teams involved. They are both on the bubble, both have the talent to make a playoff push, and both desperately need this game to keep that hope alive. Algeria is riding a 3-game winning streak, and appears to have the ship sailing in the right direction. The Brotherhood have won 2 out of their last 3, with a solid win over the Tires, so they seem to be playing their best football as well. This game should come down to tiny margin of victory . . . I'm picking the Brotherhood by 3.
Rwanda Riot (5-4) vs Impending Doom (4-5)
Another game between two very closely matched teams, both fighting for one of the last couple of playoff spots. Both teams have very challenging remaining schedules, so a win today improves their chances tremendously. On paper, it looks like the Doom have an edge in this game, but as closely matched as these teams are, that really doesn't mean very much. Rwanda needed a win over the Knights last week, and fell 5 points short. I think they bounce back this week, however, and pull out a close one.
Swaziland Dachshunds (3-6) vs Strong Badia Tires (5-4)
In a week where the middle part of the Lion conference is going to see some major shake ups, Swaziland finds themselves in an absolute must win game. Although they have one of the easier remaining schedules, I still see them finishing just out of the playoff picture . . . a win today, however, would be just the life-vest they need to keep afloat. On the other hand, a win by the Tires puts them almost in a lock for post-season play . . . so who wants it more? With practiaclly identical scouting bars and identical records against common opponents, this is a bear to call. Let's go with the Tires by 7.
