Ok Lads and Ladies...and Tim...though if your reading this Tim - get back in that box you call Zeta - Alpha is coming for you!!!
Week 1 of the Alpha playoffs are complete - lets have a little look at what happened
Stockholm Screamin Eagles (1st) v Roman Legion (8th) (250-0) - as predicted basically a bye week for the Eagles, though I like statman68's comments in my other thread talking about Bort kicking CPU teams out of the playoffs - certinally food for thought.
Moscow Iron Curtain (4th) v D.C. Redskins (5th) (48-17) - not as close as I thought, and thats saying something for Moscow as the Redskins are a good team. Redskins HB Sayer and QB Williams had ok games, but just couldn't lift to the level required in the playoffs. On the other hand Moscow QB Mega Man X and HB's Seacrest and Speedy Monster had great games, well supported by the Moscow receiving core. Hats off also to the Moscow D - who didn't give an inch to the Redskins, especially DE Rocker who played out of his skin with 2 tackles - one for a loss, 1 sack, 2 hurries and a PD - now thats a man on the D-line stepping up!!
Tyrrhenian Sea Wasps (2nd) v Donetsk Hammers (7th) (17-10) - Close game - the Hammers certinally didn't die wondering and gave it their all. On both sides of the ball Donetsk played their hearts out and many on the team lifted for the playoffs - QB Steele lead his team and kept the Hammers in the game, but it was Donetsk's D that impressed me the most - 11 hurries and 1 sack on the Sea Wasps QB shows Ferragamo had a hard day at the office. FS Dank with his 4 PD's and 8 tackles - LB Moore with 8 tackles, 3 for a loss, - and LB Laurinaitis with his 6 tackles, 1 sack and 3 PD shows the committment of this Hammers team. But my favorite was DT Phella with his 6 hurries!! he had the Sea Wasps number all day long. But in saying all that, the Sea Wasps managed a win - they played as a team, QB Ferragamo was calm under pressure, HB's A-Train and Bubba kept moving the chain - and the D played well.
Warsaw Warlocks (3rd) v Istanbul Raging Bulls (6th) (28-27) - talk about heart burn!! Watching this game almost gave me a heart attack, though I'm glad my boys managed to pull off a win. The Bulls QB Devils Advocate must of read my previous write up - not an INT in sight and he was a real handfull!! While Warsaw's HB Disco Dawson and QB Markus Vegas again played great football, the Warlocks D had some problems against the Bulls offense and QB Advocate, and they will need to shore that up if they want to advance further in the playoffs. The Bulls have a right to feel they should have won that game, and from the Warlocks point of view - we are just happy to get a win and advance!!
Week 2 games
Stockholm Screamin Eagles (1st) v Moscow Iron Curtain (4th) - This is going to be the test for Moscow, and from reading some posts it looks like they want to bring it on!!
Matchup is very close, but as before the Eagles will be looking to their big time QB McLovin and the most hated HB in GLB history Rikky Bobby to lead the way, while Moscow will be looking for its D to produce another great all round performance - if they can do that - then this game could be wide open. But for my prediction I have to go with form and the Eagles have been the team to beat all season (Eagles by 13)
Tyrrhenian Sea Wasps (2nd) v Warsaw Warlocks (3rd) the rematch Warsaw have been hoping for!!! The Sea Wasps had our number in the regular season but the playoffs are a whole different story. Both teams are closely matched, and really it will come down to which D can shut down the other teams potent offense the best. HB Disco Dawson for the Warlocks has had a stella season and only a couple of teams have had his measure this year, while for the Sea Wasps QB Ferragamo showed his calm against a strong pass rushing Moscow D last week and still managed to lead the Sea Wasps to victory. While my heart is with my Warlocks and I will be praying for an upset- to be fair the Sea Wasps deserve the favorite tag (Tyrrhenian by 7)
Well good to see the top 4 teams in Alpha fighting it out, no upsets yet - but you never know...
