The Dresden Warlords held onto a share of first place today with a blowout win over the Stockholm Scorpions, 59-10.

The Warlords beat down the Scorpions in every area of the game, especially controlling the ball and running at will.

Halfback Eric D. Nelson rushed for five touchdowns and 254.5 yards on 30 carries. Halfback Jia O'Connor added 53 yards on 12 carries.

The biggest play of the day was a 60-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Joti Vyin to wideout Tommy Marks. Vyin tossed two touchdown passes and 153.5 yards. Vyin also hit Wide receiver Corey Breaker in the back of the endzone for a 20-yard TD in the 1st quarter.

Backup quarterback Tavares "Drop Da Bomb" Erasmus had a fine game of his own, accounting for 173 yards in the air, including a 54.5-yard touchdown strike to wide receiver Monster and Vodka.

Opening the holes for the running backs and keeping the QBs from being sacked the entire game was the Warlords' dominating offensive line that racked up nearly 80 pancakes. Tackle John Fina had a game-high 21 pancakes and tackle Jimbo Covert 316 had 11 pancakes. Every lineman on the roster added at least one pancake.

Not to be outdone, the Warlords' defense was stout all day, keeping the Scorpion's quarterbacks running for their lives all day and their running backs running into walls. The defense didn't allow any single Stockholm QB or HB to pass or rush for 100 yards.

Dresden's "D" was led by linebacker Bamm Kennz, who had seven tackles and defended two passes. Linebacker Jan I'tor had six tackles and two sacks.

Cornerback Leandro Santoro had the Warlord's lone takeaway of the day, picking off QB Great Pass Rush with two minutes left in the game. Rush threw under intense pressure from defensive end Stone "Sack Master" Wall, who had a sack earlier in the game.

Place kicker Chris "CP3" Paul closed the drubbing with a 31.5-yard field goal.

The win puts Dresden at 9-2 and tied with the Dublin Irishmen and Philadelphia Blackbirds for first place in the Alpha Conference.

Next up, the Warlords will take on the 7-4 Brussels Buckeyes in non-conference play Wednesday. The Buckeyes, of the Zeta Conference, prefer to fight it out on the ground with a fierce rushing attack and equally strong rush defense.

On Thursday, the Warlords will get back to regular-season play when they travel to Liverpool to face the Terriers. The Terriers have had a rough go so far this season, dropping 10 of their 11 games. Their roster is made up of many CPU players, including their entire starting defense. Their pass defense is especially shaky.

It would be nice to see someone do this every week with an Alpha and Zeta Game of the Week.

Stuff like this makes the forums more interesting.

Also, for the record, I'd like to state that Dublin has the tiebreaker if all 3 teams win out and go 14-2, as the first tiebreaker is head to head and Dublin beat both Dresden and Philadelphia. As Dresden beat Philadelphia, that would give Dresden the number 2 seed and Philly the 3rd seed

Hopefully Dresden and Dublin lose one game and we continue to win. To get the first seed the first year as an Owner would be fantastic.

Hopefully not. I think the current seeding will most likely stand. But that's why they play the games...

Dublin has Devon next week. We had them as the preseason favorites to be the number 1 seed, so we are concerned about the game. We also have London and the very unpredictable Amsterdam yet to play. Add in the improving Berlin team, and we have to work to get to 14-2. Philly's schedule is a bit easier, as they only have Malta and Amsterdam left on their schedule, although Belfast can sneak up on them. Dresden probably has the easiest schedule left, with only Devon and London left. Again, Berlin is a decent team, but not the same level, I think, with Dresden. Two easy games with bottom dwellers Las Vegas and Liverpool will be nice.

I'd rather have either schedule than ours
