Another week of 6-2 for Swift's predictions (seems to be a trend here), bringing the season up to 23-9.

Here are the point spreads for this week if you are going to play in the Pick 'Em game. Be sure to look at the spreads listed in the selection thread, because close games will have the line moved 1/2 point one way or the other to avoid possible ties. If you want to play, make sure you are registered in the thread about the Pick 'Em game so I don't miss you, and then post your selections in the "Zeta Pick 'Em Game 7 Selections" thread. (http://goallineblitz.com/game/forum_thread.pl?thread_id=1483790). I guess the spreads from last week were good enough to make it a challenge, because one person wasn't able to get any right! (what a moron that Swift is!)

Game 6 Predictions
============================================================================================================================
This is a great week of match-ups. Many top teams playing top teams and many bottom teams playing other bottom teams. Let's see what it looks like...

Wellington Assassins (6-0) vs Devonport Devils (4-2)
-----------------------------------------------------------------
What looked like a key match-up a couple of games ago, is no longer the big game of the day. No one has been able to stop the well oiled Wellington machine yet. Whether passing or rushing, they just keep on moving and scoring. Devonport, on the other hand, has gotten lost and is running in circles. Can the Devils straighten this out and get back on the winning side? It is a tough game to have to make a come-back. The Assassins will show no mercy, remain undefeated, and slay the Devils while they are down, dropping them to .500 in conference play. Wellington by 17, 38-21.

Perth Pirates (5-1) vs Sydney Sea Wasps (5-1)
-----------------------------------------------------------------
This will be one of the key games of the day. Perth is undefeated in conference play. Their only loss was to the other conference leader, GERMAN WILDDOGS (6-0). Sydney is also 5-1, with their only loss coming at the hands of the Assassins (6-0). The only teams that they both have played were easy games vs Alaska Wild and Chippewa Predators. This should be a really good game. Can Perth ground the high flying aerial attack of Sydney? Will the stout defense of Sydney rob the Pirates of many scoring opportunities? In a close one, I will go with the newcomers, Sydney by 3, 20-17.

Olden Swillers (5-1) vs Newcastle Mountain Lions (5-1)
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Another great game to watch this week, as we have two top teams, one old one new, battling it out to see who will stay at the top. Olden is on a 4 game winning streak and Newcastle a 3 game winning streak. They have no opponents in common so far. Olden's one loss was to the Assassins, 30-24. Newcastle's one loss was to the Pirates, 30-24. The Mountain Lions have played the easiest conference schedule so far with their opponent's only having won 32% of their conference games. Will the Swillers, swill? Or will the Mountain Lions take a bite out of their plans. In the last game, I chose the new over the old. This time I'd like to take the old over the new, but my instincts (mostly just stinks) tell me the new prevail here too. Olden in a close battle that goes down to the wire by 4, 35-31.

Newcastle Dream (4-2) vs DECATUR STALEYS
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Yet another good game this week. The Dream are fresh off a destructive win over Devonport in a close battle, while the STALEYS just took a beating from the Swillers and want to turn it around quickly. A win for either team will move them up to about #4 with all the games of top vs top this week. DECATUR with the 48 GMs looking at the game will do their best to come up with a game plan to ruin the Dream that Newcastle has of being in the top 4, but in the end, all the shouting in the STALEYS game planning session missed the voice with the answer. Newcastle wins by 6, 20-14.

Redcliffe Sharks (3-3) vs Chippewa Prey (0-6)
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Ok, this isn't much of a game as it's the Sharks turn to have some easy prey. Not much to say about this one other than Redcliffe gets above .500 after taking down the Chippewa Peewees. Redcliffe in a rout by 106, 120-14.

Apia Evil (3-3) vs DHARMA Initiative (0-6)
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Another gimme game, this time it's Apia's turn. DHARMA is caught looking forward to it's fateful meeting on 11/27 and let's the Evil run wild on them. Apia wants to stay up with Redcliffe in the playoff hunt and shows no mercy to poor DHARMA. Apia in a landslide by 87, 97-10.

Hamilton Falcons (2-4) vs Alaska Wild (1-5)
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Hamilton is desperately looking for the answer to turn their season around and Alaska jumped up and said, "Here I am!" If the Wild don't want to slip into the abyss called "The Bottom 4", then they better act now to pull out a victory as they will be few and far between this season. In the end, Falcons really do like to soar in the Alaska Wild, so they feel quite at home in this game. Back on the winning side, Hamilton takes home a victory by 77, 97-20.

Intergalactic Sub-Mariners (1-5) vs Saipan Stingrays CPU (1-5)
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Perhaps the tensest match of the day as the winner of this game will have a chance at a 3 win season, but the loser can't hope for any better than 2. So this is it. Both teams are hard at work setting their game plans. So it's foxC, Gillulu, el whoopo, davidlown, and DEAMSTER TEAMSTER vs CPU. If the Sub-Mariners can find a way to pull the power on the Stingrays planning, or perhaps to pass a virus to them, then they can shutdown the hapless Saipanese. Or will the crafty CPU have a UPS and firewall to thwart the schemes of ISM? ..... Oh the suspense is killing me..... I'm going to need a nerve pill.... Ok, so I'm just being a little melodramatic, but someone had to do it.... It's Intergalactic in their best showing of the season, winning by 57, 70-13.

So there we have it for this intensely exciting week. It feels like I threw the old guys under the bus, but I'm really just trying to make myself feel better by saying how good these new teams are that keep whoopin' my butt! Good luck all. Let's see if the game planners can change the future!

thanks for carrying on the johnbarber tradition of picking NML to lose in big games. Here's to hoping your accuracy is as bad as his was.

Results:

Wellington Assassins (6-0) vs Devonport Devils (4-2)
Picked WA by 17, 38-21. Actual WA by 77, 77-0. Devonport forgot to show up for the game.

Perth Pirates (5-1) vs Sydney Sea Wasps (5-1)
Picked Sydney by 3, 20-17. Actual Perth by 7, 51-44. Perth proves me wrong yet again. I bet you like when I pick against you!

Olden Swillers (5-1) vs Newcastle Mountain Lions (5-1)
Picked Olden by 4, 35-31. Actual Olden by 4, 20-16. Hmmm, I was pretty close on this one!

Newcastle Dream (4-2) vs DECATUR STALEYS
Picked Newcastle by 6, 20-14. Actual Newcastle by 28, 42-14. Not very close, but at least I had the right winner!

Redcliffe Sharks (3-3) vs Chippewa Prey (0-6)
Picked Redcliffe by 106, 120-14. Actual Redcliffe by 124, 124-0. Shut them down completely. Great job Redcliffe!

Apia Evil (3-3) vs DHARMA Initiative (0-6)
Picked Apia by 87, 97-10. Actual Apia by 122, 122-0. Apia spewed out some Evil in this one!

Hamilton Falcons (2-4) vs Alaska Wild (1-5)
Picked Hamilton by 77, 97-20. Actual Hamilton by 56, 77-21. Hamilton comes through big, but the Wild put up a fight.

Intergalactic Sub-Mariners (1-5) vs Saipan Stingrays CPU (1-5)
Picked Intergalactic by 57, 70-13. Actual Intergalactic by 70, 70-0. The Sub-Mariners must have found that power cord to shutdown the CPUs!

Record for the week: 7-1. But I wasn't very close on some of the scores. I'll try to do better next time.
