#8 The Pretenders at #1 the Elephant Riders

Elephant Riders:

The Riders (15-1) have had a great season thus far, weathering many battles to secure the top seed in a ferocious Zeta conference. Their sole loss came away from home at the hands of the Gold Rush, who were favored by many at the season's beginning to win the League.

Offense:
All of the starters are well beyond 30th level, and must be solid builds judging by their regular season performances.

Much of their success is due to their tremendous O-line, where they have several linemen with over 100 pancakes each. The TE Black Dwarf and FB Christian Word also are big eaters, with 82 and 104 pancakes respectively.

The top notch protection allows stars like HB Neil O'Fallon and QB Lestat de Lioncourt to do their work. Both are tremendous pro-bowl caliber players, and the Elephant Riders provide them with all the tools they need to get the job done.

Defense:
The defense is also blessed with several key players sporting high levels and superior builds. A great defense is one that is dangerous from any position, and the Elephant Riders have practiced this philosophy. Standouts include:

CB Otep Shamaya, who always seems to be in the right place at the right time.

DT Wylde Young and LB Elijah McPhetridge who make a regular lunch date of game-day feasting on quarterbacks.

CB Eddie Nash who is so good he makes you wonder what he'd be like playing on offense.

-----------

The Pretenders:
The Pretenders(9-7) have pretty much overachieved just by making the playoffs. Underleveled and understaffed to start the season, with good game planning and agent participation they managed to close the gap, win all of the games they were capable of winning, and sneak a couple close victories over superior squads in Salford Storm and Garut Fire Horses.

Offense:
The Pretenders aren't horrible at passing, but their running game is where it's at. With a good O-line and a fantastic back in Cleetus Johnson, they kept the clock ticking and the ball moving to the tune of 74 touchdowns this season. Look to them to stick to the ground versus ER, the best way to slow down that offense is to make sure it stays off the field.

When it's 3rd and long, QB Zack Mills will look in JP Armstrong's direction to make the first down. WR's Clyde Hicks and Nicholas Wagner are also solid targets in the redzone as their combined 13 touchdowns will attest.

Defense:
FS Jay O'Meila is to be feared in the secondary, where he leads the team in interceptions, pass deflections, tackles, and forced fumbles.

On the line, DT Frank the Tank and DE Marcus Spears have proven they can mix it up with anybody, and have gotten good results all season long.

------------

Prediction:The Pretenders have had a great season, one they can be proud of, but are they lucky and good enough to find a way to upset the Elephant Riders at home? Never say never, but I will believe it when I see it. ELEPHANT RIDERS by 30

#7 Garut Fire Horses at #2 Singapore Flames

Singapore Flames:
Despite their doubters, the Flames (14-2) found a way to win against pretty much anybody this season, dispatching top team after top team as they established that their rightful place as one of the leagues oldest and best teams. Both losses versus the Metalheads and the Elephant Riders were decided by close margins, and I'm sure that Singapore is relishing a rematch.

Offense:
QB Jonny Cannonshow is the undisputed leader of the squad, but he finds plenty of help in both a titanic frontline and capable receivers. WR's Evan Sizzla and Goto Guy in particular have been terrorizing defenses all season long.

G Supersize Larry is among the best at his position and captains some of the best blocking schemes and protection found in South East Asia.

On the ground, HB Tank Gore makes sure defenses play honest, racking up over 2700 yards and 53 touchdowns for the season.

Defense:
The Flames defense has been scorching hot this season, holding most opponents to well below their average scores. The squad is generally strong, but has a couple of stars that shine brighter than others.

DE Sack Attacker gives quarterbacks nightmares league wide, while CB Lockdown Champ scores more than most Wide Receivers do.

-----------

Garut Fire Horses:
The Fire Horses(9-7) redoubled their efforts this year and secured a playoff spot despite fierce competition in Zeta. They beat the teams they needed to, and had quality upsets over the Tibet Psychonauts and SBI Waves to help them qualify for the #7 seed.

Offense:
The Fire Horses have good players for both the ground and air attack, but because of blowouts versus the top teams, the air game sees more action.

OT Jason Spense has been tremendous for both attacks, protecting the QB well, and laying out a team high 185 pancakes on defenders.

WR's Jerry Owens III and Mr. Randy Marsh shared the scoring load through the air with 16 TD's, and HB's Marshal Sanders and Jamal Carter split time on the ground with 39 TD's.

QB Trevor Grant is talented but too many hurries and sacks has made him a little prone to interceptions.

Defense:

The Fire Horses employ one of the best CB's in the game in Ty King, who has 11 interceptions on the year, including 4 that he returned for points.

CB Getafix Obi Wan Dumbledore isn't as adept at picking the ball, but is an expert at stripping it, he leads the team in 3 forced fumbles - a category the team has found much success in, having scored 5 touchdowns from fumble recoveries.

------------

Prediction: The Flames have done too much and come too far to get upset in the first round. The Fire Horses keep the score respectable, but this is Singapore's game. FLAMES by 17

#5 Pontianak Firebirds at #4 Algeria Addiction

Algeria Addiction:
Considered by many to be the #1 team in Alpha going into this season, eyebrows were raised when the Addiction (13-3) lost to their top three contenders. Whether this was to holding boosts & game plans back, or if it was just a matter of the 'lesser' teams closing the gaps is the question on everybody's mind as we head into the postseason.

Offense:
Algeria has probowl quality players at several positions and has one of the most loaded rosters on the league outlevelling most teams by several levels.

Out of all these stars, four burn brightest. Led by C Scott Swells, G Lorenza Mata and OT's Chewbacca and Mike Thomas they have been busting heads and opening holes all season. 876 pancakes between the starting five have allowed star QB Joe Kane and super-talented receiving core plenty of time and space to move the posts.

WR David Snow is equally dangerous on special teams is he is catching passes. He's scored 8 times from throws, and 9 times off of kicks and punts.

Defense:

This team is strong at every position and boasts the leagues best defender in DT Mike Keim. This guy has been making some of the leagues best O-lines look foolish game after game. With 174 tackles, 70 hurries, 70 sacks, and 9 forced fumbles this guy plays like Water Boy. Ain't nobody going to keep him from his target. A word to opposing OC's.. You can't stop this guy, but if you want any chances of winning, you have to slow him down.

If the offense can find away past Keim and the ferocious D-line, an excellent secondary awaits them led by CB's Ball Hawking and Nick Feely.

-----------

Pontianak Firebirds:
The Firebirds (9-7) fought off some tough challengers to secure the 5th spot in a competitive conference. Wins over the Ho Chi Minh Hookers and the Phuket Water Dragons were highlights of their schedule. They face a tough first round opponent, but don't count them out just yet. If they play well and have a healthy dose of luck, anything could happen.

Offense:
Despite facing stifling pass defense all season long, QB Hot Dog Pump turned in another solid performance. His favorite target had to be WR Aye Gorm, who is among the best at his position in the league. They were aided by a competent ground game led by the quick feet and strong shoulders of HB Major Major Rhinehart.

Defense:

They have a lot of up-and-comers on this squad, but one star has already arrived. CB Shawn Suchy has been tremendous for them all season against some of the leagues top offenses. By deflecting 51 passes, intercepting 10 throws, and forcing fumbles, this Firebird flew highest of all.

LB Turnip Trader is also a versatile threat that OC's ignore at their own peril. He's a hard hitter (6 fumbles) and has also seen success sacking and picking off QB's.

------------

Prediction:
Pontianiak Firebirds have done themselves proud this season, and normally a #5 seeding is good enough for a decent chance to proceed to the 2nd round. Unfortunately for them, Algeria underachieved and so they face probably the conference's best team instead of a contender. Congrats on a good season Pontianak, but I don't see you winning this one. #6 Ho Chi Minh Hookers at #3 Cambodia Mountain Men

Cambodia Mountain Mens:
Cambodia (14-2) started making moves late last season, and it wasn't enough to get them into the playoffs, but it sure gave them a jump start on the this season. They came storming out of the gates, taking on all comers, beating pretty much every team they faced regardless of the odds against them. The Horde and Garudas managed to slow them down, but Mountain Men performed well even in their losses. With a little luck, this team is capable of winning the league.

Offense:
One of the things that allowed Cambodia to be so sucessful was the teams versatility and gamplanning. QB Ian Vucinic and RB's George Hearst and Kareem Rush are all pro-bowl quality and allows the team to target the weakness of the opposing defense and also keep them off-balanced. The team has many weapons, and WR's Seth Cox and Damn Haole are among the most dangerous of them.

Guys like OT Mojo Taterhead and G Tim-or-Jeff Borrom lead a strong o-line in doing the dirty work and giving the skill positions a chance to shine.

Defense:
A rock solid defense has allowed Cambodia to keep pace with even the best teams in the league. Guys like DE Hurries McGee and Lester Holt have made psychotherapists around SEA rich by terrorizing opposing QB's into extra sessions.

Coverage wise, the Mountain Men have been simply outstanding with team leading CB's Heuvos Rancheros, Aaron Davies, and Garrett Moore intercepting the ball 25 times and bringing them back for 60 points this season.

-----------

Ho Chi Minh Hookers:
The Hookers (9-7) have learned to do what it takes to win games in this conference. Their 9-7 record may fool some, but this team knows how to win when the stakes are high.

Offense:
Ho Chi Minh helps its defense tremendously by staying on the field for majority of the game. They are able to accomplish this by a bruising O-line strong at every position, championed by the maniac G Jumbo Chickenleg. These guys dig in deep and allow team MVP HB Brock Flannigan to work his rushing magic. Back up Jimmy Dolin does a great job of spelling Flannigan when he needs to rest. All this combines for one of the leagues best rushing teams. They might pass it occasionally too, but really, why bother?

Defense:
The Hookers are pretty much strong accross the board as defenders, but a couple guys really stand out.

DE Dylan McKay leads the D-line in shutting down plays before they get started. With 3 forced fumbles and 22 sacks, he is a force to be reckoned with.

SS is their best playmaker in the backfield. Having forced 4 fumbles and intercepted 5 throws, he is always a threat to force a turnover.

------------

Prediction: This will be a knockdown, drag-out fight, but the Cambodians versatility will allow them to convert more red-zone opportunies and pull ahead for the win. MOUNTAIN MEN by 13

The Water Boy comment about Keim was too funny.
