#8 The Pretenders at #1 the Elephant Riders
Elephant Riders:
The Riders (15-1) have had a great season thus far, weathering many battles to secure the top seed in a ferocious Zeta conference. Their sole loss came away from home at the hands of the Gold Rush, who were favored by many at the season's beginning to win the League.
Offense:
All of the starters are well beyond 30th level, and must be solid builds judging by their regular season performances.
Much of their success is due to their tremendous O-line, where they have several linemen with over 100 pancakes each. The TE Black Dwarf and FB Christian Word also are big eaters, with 82 and 104 pancakes respectively.
The top notch protection allows stars like HB Neil O'Fallon and QB Lestat de Lioncourt to do their work. Both are tremendous pro-bowl caliber players, and the Elephant Riders provide them with all the tools they need to get the job done.
Defense:
The defense is also blessed with several key players sporting high levels and superior builds. A great defense is one that is dangerous from any position, and the Elephant Riders have practiced this philosophy. Standouts include:
CB Otep Shamaya, who always seems to be in the right place at the right time.
DT Wylde Young and LB Elijah McPhetridge who make a regular lunch date of game-day feasting on quarterbacks.
CB Eddie Nash who is so good he makes you wonder what he'd be like playing on offense.
-----------
The Pretenders:
The Pretenders(9-7) have pretty much overachieved just by making the playoffs. Underleveled and understaffed to start the season, with good game planning and agent participation they managed to close the gap, win all of the games they were capable of winning, and sneak a couple close victories over superior squads in Salford Storm and Garut Fire Horses.
Offense:
The Pretenders aren't horrible at passing, but their running game is where it's at. With a good O-line and a fantastic back in Cleetus Johnson, they kept the clock ticking and the ball moving to the tune of 74 touchdowns this season. Look to them to stick to the ground versus ER, the best way to slow down that offense is to make sure it stays off the field.
When it's 3rd and long, QB Zack Mills will look in JP Armstrong's direction to make the first down. WR's Clyde Hicks and Nicholas Wagner are also solid targets in the redzone as their combined 13 touchdowns will attest.
Defense:
FS Jay O'Meila is to be feared in the secondary, where he leads the team in interceptions, pass deflections, tackles, and forced fumbles.
On the line, DT Frank the Tank and DE Marcus Spears have proven they can mix it up with anybody, and have gotten good results all season long.
------------
Prediction:The Pretenders have had a great season, one they can be proud of, but are they lucky and good enough to find a way to upset the Elephant Riders at home? Never say never, but I will believe it when I see it. ELEPHANT RIDERS by 30
